Day 2

My philosophy statement is simple which could be a good or bad approach, depending on

where a teacher stands when it comes to a philosophy. Students are different some require a

different way of thinking, need extra help, or just need to know where they stand on a certain

subject. Students that need help can be helped but it depends if the teacher can read the signs of a

struggling student. I believe everyone has what it takes to succeed, all they need is the drive to be

great but also the help of the professors.

Students can only go so far with few ways of solving problems. In high school I was

having trouble with math until I met a brilliant teacher. I was scared when the math class started,

until he showed me how he taught. He would go over the lesson then cover different strategies to

get the same results. Teachers should cover other ways to teach not all students learn the same

way. A professor who only goes over the instructions in the book will only cause success for

some students instead of all.

Not all students can grasp the information as well as others, some need an extra push in

order to get the right answer. I’m not asking teachers to call out students when teaching a class.

That will only cause the student to feel humiliated, making matters worse. If students are willing

to go in for extra help teachers should also be willing to help the student. If teachers only wish

for students to learn from the time in the class. Those not understanding the material will slip

through the cracks. Teachers have to be available in other hours for students to get help, maybe

even allow students to sent emails to ask questions. Not all students want help, teachers who

offer extra help can only do so much, students who don’t take that change can only be helped to

an extent.

Before a professor cam begin teaching they must first see where each student knows

before teaching. Not all students know the same material, some are a little behind, ahead or just

in the right spot. Knowing what needs to be taught first is one of many steps to help students

succeed in the classroom. One classroom in high school didn’t see what students know before

beginning what was taught. I had no idea where to begin on the assignment I went to ask for help

to see what had to be done. After that I was able to pass the class but I understood little some

days.

Teaching is no easy task, one of the toughest jobs I have ever seen. Teachers have to deal

with the difficult kids, make plans so all students can benefit, and make extra time for the

students who need help. I love the teachers who get to know their students, allowing them to visit

when they have free time to talk or learn. It’s the teachers who think of those that are struggling

that are great.
