Features of the Hospital ERP System

1. Patient Registration
Registration module can be used for managing patient's demographic details, identities
(including their photograph), address, contact information and other socio-economic details (or other
non-clinical information about the patient). Your registration clerk can search for patients and can
also manage their visits.

2. Patient Documents
Your hospital may have to receive and capture patient's information in form of documents.
This could include patient's paper record scans, X-Ray images and other documents received from
external entities. System allows you to upload these documents by tagging them and associating it to
specific visits of a patient. These documents can be captured directly (by using the camera) using a
mobile interface of system too. All these documents get attached to patient's record viewable from
other parts in the system. On these documents the clinicians can also write their comments/notes.

3. Clinical Services
The Clinical Services feature is used to view the treatment history of existing patients, as well as to start a
registered patient's treatment process in the medical facility.

 Enter Patient data retrospectively or on behalf of another provider.

 View Patient Dashboard including Patient Details, Active and Past Programs, etc.
 View the summary of a Patient's visit along with graphs and trend mapping.
 Capture specific clinical observations for the patient such as Obstetrics, Gynecology, etc.
 Autocompletes most data fields for easier data entry.
 Capture various diagnoses for the patient.
 Capture Dispositions for the patient with Disposition notes.
 Capture Consultation notes for the patient.
 Prescribe treatment orders for medications.
 Place orders for radiology tests via PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System)
integration.
 Place orders for Laboratory tests.
 View the consultation history of the patient.
 View scanned documents and results of tests.
 Capture Bacteriology test results for the patient (different from laboratory tests). Bacteriology
includes smear test results, culture test results and drug-sensitivity test results.
 View Patient Lists with support for sorting by filters.

4. Appointment Scheduling
Appointment scheduling is an essential activity in many healthcare settings. Patients are often given
appointments to meet providers and consequently access the requisite care and services. By scheduling
appointments, healthcare settings try to manage the schedules of various providers and services offered and
also in streamlining the patient load. The feature in Bahmni is aimed at helping the implementations with
the same.

Appointment Scheduling can be used across healthcare settings and across different
departments within a healthcare setting. Few examples of scenarios where appointments are given
for:
1. General OPDs or Specialised OPD services like a Diabetic Clinic or a Dental clinic
2. Particular providers coming only on specific days and times of the week
3. A service like X-ray or Ultrasound scan
4. Surgery slots in Operation theaters etc

5. Laboratory Management
The laboratory management module in System is built upon an opensource software called
OpenELIS. When a patient is registered in system using the registration module, the patient name
and demographic information is synced automatically to the lab system. When the patient goes to the
lab, the lab technician collecting the sample can look up the patient and add tests for that patient.

The lab module syncs back the tests added, along with the results and referral information
back to the clinical module for the doctors and nurses to see this information. The key features of the
laboratory management system are:

 Sample collection
 Recording tests and results.
 Referring tests.
 Printing out of results.
 Lab workload management.
 Generating Reports.

6. Radiology and PACS

System provides the ability to integrate with PACS to send radiology orders and access
fulfillments (radiology images) via a link to the DICOM web viewer. The integration with PACS has
two main functions :

1. Send the radiology order created in System to PACS server.

2. Provide the ability to view the image stored in PACS against the corresponding radiology order.

7. Patient Document Management

Your hospital may have to receive and capture patient's information in form of documents.
This could include patient's paper record scans, X-Ray images and other documents received from
external entities. This System allows you to upload these documents by tagging them and associating
it to specific visits of a patient.
When we use this system in Tablets like iPad, these documents can be captured directly (by using the
camera). All these documents get attached to patient's record viewable from other parts in the
system. On these documents the clinicians can also write their comments/notes.

8. Reporting
Creating canned reports is a challenging task because the requirements vary widely by
hospitals and also depend on how terminologies, forms, patient attributes etc., are setup for them.
System offers a solution to this problem by providing easily 'configurable canned' reports. System
provides a library of these reports using which each implementation can easily create their own
reports without the need of understanding the underlying data model of OpenMRS. You can also
combine multiple such reports as sub-reports to create your own reports. Reports are available in
PDF, CSV and HTML format.
9. Mobile Connect
Mobile Connect allows the user to access system in areas where there is limited or no internet
connectivity. Mobile Connect records ramped down medical information about patients. The information
collected in Mobile Connect gets synced with the system online server (mother location) when the
device gets internet connectivity.

Given this scenario, it is necessary to note that Mobile Connect supports a subset of Mobile
online features. There are many features it does not yet support but are in development and features it is
not designed to support and will not be supporting in the foreseeable future.

10.Operation Theatre Scheduling

Scheduling of surgeries in any care setting is a challenging task. There are multiple variables
that go into consideration - Surgeon’s availability, the patient’s condition, availability of the OT and
the right medical devices/ surgical instruments etc among other things. And if done rightly, it
contributes to improving the operational efficiency of the hospital and also ensures timely care to
patients with minimal waiting time. Hence it is important that the staff are supported with the right
tool to make efficient schedules.

There are different types of Scheduling in the context of Operation Theaters that are followed
in different hospitals:

 Open scheduling : Open scheduling allows surgical cases to be assigned to an operating room
available at the convenience of the surgeons.
 Block scheduling : Block scheduling, allows assignment of specific surgeons or groups of surgeons
to a set of time blocks, normally for some weeks or months, into which they can arrange their
surgical cases. In the pure form, the surgeon or group "owns" their time blocks. None of those time
blocks can be released.
 Modified block scheduling: Modified block scheduling is modified into two ways to increase its
flexibility. Either some time is blocked based on the surgeries to be performed and some is left open,
or unused block time is released at an agreed-upon time before surgery and allotted to another
Surgeon.

In this system, we use Modified Block Scheduling type, as it is widely used.

This type of Scheduling module helps maximize your operational efficiencies and profits by providing a
flexible tool to manage block scheduling. You can reserve blocks of resource time for particular providers,
provider groups, procedures, service types and patient types.

Features of OT Block Scheduling module includes:

 Resource reservation for specific surgical appointments, based upon multiple parameters.
 Timed release of under-utilised blocks.
 Manual release and/or removal of blocks by authorized users.
 Block conflict warnings.
 Flexible definitions of blocks and free scheduling of appointments within the block.
 Utilisation metrics, based upon historical data, Estimated & Actual time recording.
 Print Weekly OT Schedules.
 Ease of OT Schedule creation pulling procedure information from observations.
 Guide OT admins to create schedules for “Surgery Ready” patients.
 Authorized users can create, edit, release or remove various types of blocks.
