IPL Business Energy Incentive Custom Rebate Program: VFD Calculator

Welcome. This document has been prepared by CLEAResult.

The purpose of this workbook is to determine the savings from implementing variable speed drives on pumps and fans. This tool
specifically focuses on variable speed drive applications for space temperature conditioning.
Process related loads cannot be run through this calculator.
Enable Macros!
Enter all initial parameters on the "VFD Calculator" tab. The necessary items are highlighted in Green.
All required fields must be filled in for savings to be properly displayed.

VFD Calculator
Building ID: Enter the Building Identification name or number.
Area Description: Describe the area affected by the chiller resets.
Weather Station: Choose from the list the closest applicable weather station.
Electricity Rate ($/kWh): Enter the blended average cost of electricity.
Estimated Cost to Implement this Measure: Approximate total project cost.
Operating Schedule: Enter the daily operating hours of the building for Monday - Sunday, the schedule is not required if you answer "yes" in number 8.
Application: Choose from the drop down list the application in which the fan/pump is used.
Seasonal End Use: Choose from the drop down list if the fan/pump serves cooling, heating or both.
Existing Type/ Control Strategy: Choose from the drop down list the type of fan/pump used along with its existing control strategy.
Rated Motor Power: Enter the nameplate motor horsepower. If lead/lag pumps exist only use horsepower from one pump.
Does the Motor Operate During Unoccupied Hours? Indicate (Yes/No) if the fan/pump is operated even during un-occupied hours.
Does the System Have an Air Side Economizer? Indicate (Yes/No) if the air system utilizes an economizer to achieve free cooling.
12a. Economizer High Limit Shutoff: Enter the outdoor air temperature (°F) at which the economizer stops and mechanical cooling begins.
Heating System Lockout: Use this field to enter the heating system lockout temperature of the system. This is the outdoor air temperature above which the heating system down not
operate.
Cooling System Lockout: Use this field to enter the cooling system lockout temperature (°F) . This is the outdoor air temperature below which mechanical cooling is not used. Note,
economizer cooling is not mechanical cooling.
Please Note: This calculator is used for estimating savings and does not guarantee the estimated incentive. The methodology presented in this calculator is deemed acceptable for the IPL
Custom Program. However, the assumptions used by the applicant to calculate the annual savings will be reviewed by the Business Custom Incentive Program, which is solely responsible for
the final determination of the annual energy savings to be used in calculating the incentive amount. The Program also reserves the right to require the applicant to conduct specific
measurement and verification activities, including monitoring both before and after the retrofit, and to base the incentive payment on the results of these activities.
Incentive amount is calculated based on first year energy savings. The incentives are earned at $0.08 kWh saved. Incentives are limited to a maximum cap of $100,000 per project at a
service ID and/or building behind a master meter. Total combined custom and prescriptive incentives are capped at $500,000 per customer per calendar year.
