Rural homlessness is even more invisible because they aren't seen as much as the homeless
are in big cities. Homeless people are of higher risk to illness because they are usually older,
have higher rates of chronic diseases and disabilities. People are born into unstable homes and
these kids may have to deal with lack of internet access which makes it hard for homeless
children to thrive in school. Government attempts to give help to homeless students by letting
them stay at their school even if they move out of the district and paying for school supplies and
transportation. Schools also supply food for students. Some homeless people and families who
don’t outright live on the street, aren't seen and this leads to them not being counted and then
not provided for. American people may also never be aware of benefits they qualify for. Living
in abandoned barns or cars, America's biggest issue is solving homeless families. Homeless
shelters especially in rural areas struggle to get funding. Covid has really brought out the
troubles homeless people face.

This article debunks a lot of common homelessness crisis arguments. Shelters are an okay
idea, but they are not a long term solution. It is also hard to have quality homeless shelters
cause funding isn't always great. Homeless shelters also aren't always safe, there is violence
and sexual assault. Making housing more affordable has never worked. Even if government
funding housing would make them be affordable, landlords would buy it and sell it for more.
“Housing first” has been shown to be very effective but why just give homeless people free
housing? Free housing is something that can be abused. Not being able to afford housing isn't
usually a homeless person's only problem, they also probably have to deal with physical and
mental disabilities and simply giving them housing isn't going to fix that. It’s important to tackle
mentally ill homeless people.

A lot of people who are homeless are switching between being in jails, shelters, and the streets.
Since a lot of homeless people seem to be legally in trouble often, maybe this shows a place we
should tackle. A path to stopping homlessnes is to reduce criminal justice involved in it. This can
be done by continuing to decriminalize homlessness, Offering alternatives and help after jail so
people don’t have to come out being homeless, Reducing barriers to housing and employment
to those with criminal records, and strengthening the relationship between the criminal justice
system and homlessness service systems.

There are many Americans who struggle to make enough money to live because they struggle
to find affordable housing and long-term and full-time jobs. Having to pay for college and
healthcare can completely destroy some one’s savings. Government resources are not enough
so when someone is definitely struggling and needs help but isn't the worst off, they end up with
almost no help. Homlessness is criminalized. People seem to often blame homeless people for
being homeless with the argument that they must be lazy or uneducated. The real problem is
that people are not paid enough to be able to live. Another problem is the lack of affordable
housing. Landlords have too much power and can make paying rent far too high for what you
are getting paid. Most Americans do not have savings because it is hard to afford life as it is, so
when something does happen they have nothing to fall back nto. Homelessness is an invisible
problem especially to politicians. Politicians are rich and do not care about the poor. In order to
fix homelesness we need to work on making life more affordable.
