Voice = warm up #1

Don’t let the simplicity of this fool you, it works.

Stand with your body balanced, centered. Image there is a string connected to the top of your
head, holding you up like a marionette. Image there is another string at your tailbone pulling
your center down. RELAX… we need to release all the tension in your throat, neck, shoulders.
We will work from the diaphragm, engaging the chest, lower abs, back, sides - with an OPEN
THROAT.

Yawn - release tension from the throat, feel how open and relaxed your throat feels. Also, your
diaphragm is at work

Gentle Cough - your diaphragm is at work –feel how we engage the muscles the chest, lower
abs, back, sides.

Lip Roll - Throat relaxed, shoulders relaxed -body at work. Take a breath and let it out with Lip
Roll. No specific note

Shake Head side to side like no (gently) and Lip Roll – Feel your abs engage, the muscles
naturally step in to assist you.

Lip Roll from Head Voice to Chest Voice (top down) – Add the HEAD SHAKE to keep the neck
and throat relaxed.

Lip Roll from Chest Voice to Head Voice (bottom up) – HUNCH YOUR SHOULDERS up , then drop
them and then Lip Roll up.

Pelvic Floor / Hip Sockets - Abs do help, but the strength comes from low. Don’t tighten hips or
knees.. Squat down as Lip Roll goes up / Then REVERSE lip roll going down

Bow – do the lip roll as you gently bow and feel the strength

Try these before singing a song you know , and FEEL the difference in your body

Straw Breath – Inhale like you are sucking on a straw, feel the relaxed controlled breathing-
breathing deeply. EXHALE with a HISS …
After a few, do again and HOLD your belly as you rhythmically hiss the sound out.
