in the USB Drivers folder included on the T-Doble CD-ROM and in the
download package available on www.doble.com. To install, double-click
CP210xVCPInstaller.exe and accept all defaults.
No drivers are required for the TDR9000 RS-232 serial port, but a third-party
USB-to-serial adapter is required if your PC has no RS-232 connector. See the
Quick-Start Guide for your specific instrument for more information.

Introducing T-Doble 2.1

Ethernet Communication with a TDR900

T-Doble includes two executables that require network access to discover and
operate an Ethernet-connected TDR900. Depending on your PC software
configuration, they may need to be granted a firewall exception.
The locations of the two executables for Windows XP and Windows 7 are as
follows:
Windows XP
• C:\Program Files\Doble Engineering\T-Doble 2.1\bin\Tdoble.exe
• C:\Program Files\Doble Engineering\T-Doble 2.1\bin\discover.exe
Windows 7
• C:\Program Files (x86)\Doble Engineering\T-Doble
2.1\bin\Tdoble.exe
• C:\Program Files (x86)\Doble Engineering\T-Doble
2.1\bin\discover.exe

Changes Included in Version 2.1

New Features and Improvements
• Added compatibility with the Windows 7 operating system (32- and
64-bit)
• Added support for second-generation DTAWeb authentication,
resulting in slight changes to the DTAWeb tab
• Added preference setting for number of decimal places displayed in
Virtual Channel tabulation
• Removed USB driver installation from the T-Doble setup and made it
a manual step to avoid installer conflicts
• Improved general performance of plot display and labels, plot
zooming, and trace overlays

Fixed Problems
• PCs with dual-homed Ethernet (two separate network interface cards)
no longer experience network conflicts when T-Doble is used to
control a TDR900.
• Print Preview no longer causes an error when no printer is installed.
• Capacitance Test Pass/Fail tabulation now occurs at test run time and
there is no need to reload the results file.

T-Doble™ 2.1 Marketing Release Note

• T-Doble 2.1 retains Timing Reference information when opening files

created by T-Doble 1.3.
• T-Doble 2.1 correctly interprets External Trigger information when
opening files created by T-Doble 1.3.
• Non-sequentially numbered Event channels are no longer mis-named
in Results.
• Some user interface messages that previously had not been translated
into other languages have been translated.

Known Problems and Limitations in T-Doble 2.1

• At the time of T-Doble 2.1 release, DTAWeb back-end support for the
new authentication methods has not been released. Until it is,
T-Doble 2.1 cannot be used to upload breaker test files to DTAWeb or
download breaker test files from DTAWeb. Use the standalone
DTAWeb application to upload or download files until the next
back-end update is published.
• If a channel is referenced in the Timing Reference Setup table on the
Triggering, Timing tab, the reference remains in the table even if you
deactivate the channel in a test plan. When you then run a test, an error
may occur. To prevent the error, remove the channel from the Timing
Reference Setup table on the Triggering, Timing tab before running
the test.
• When the breaker line frequency is set at 25 Hz, the Standing delay for
Trip-Free and OCO is 20 ms but appears in the result as 10 ms.
• Gaps in test plan channel numbering (for example, activating
Motion 1 and 3, but not Motion 2) may prevent tabulated results from
being generated.
• Changes made on the Report Design tab are not retained between
sessions.

Current Instrument Firmware Versions

TDR900 Firmware
At the time of this release, the latest firmware version was:
Version 1.3 Build 42
To verify the release version of the software embedded in your instrument,
check the Version column of the Instrument tab in T-Doble (Figure 1).

Figure 1 Determining TDR900 Instrument Firmware Version

TDR9000 Firmware
At the time of this release, the latest firmware version was:
Version 4.1
The TDR9000 firmware has not changed in some time, but T-Doble 2.1
checks the firmware version reported by the instrument at connection time. If
the instrument’s reported version is not the latest, T-Doble 2.1 prompts an
update.

Known Problems and Limitations: TDR900

Long-duration or Low Sample-rate Tests May Run Longer than Expected
Tests performed on the TDR900 at extremely low sample rates (below 25 Hz)
with durations of a minute or more may run twice as long as expected. For
example, a test configured at a 20 Hz sample rate with 10 minute duration
requires about 20 minutes to finish. The results returned by the test are correct:
they consist of the first 10 minutes of data.

Odd Number of EHV Channels Not Supported

If your TDR900 was shipped new or serviced at the Doble Watertown facility
after 11/16/2010, the issue discussed in this section does not apply to you.
Because of a hardware issue unrelated to T-Doble, some TDR900 instruments
return flat-lined B-phase Main Contact results when an odd number of EHV
Main Contact channels is enabled in any breaker module. If you encounter this
problem, always enable EHV contact channels in pairs, such as 1&2, 3&4, or
all, and ignore the results returned by any unused channels.
If your instrument was shipped before 11/16/2010 and has not been serviced
by Doble Watertown since then, this issue can be corrected at Doble
Watertown. Contact Doble Customer Service for additional information.

T-Doble™ 2.1 Marketing Release Note

Known Problems and Limitations: TDR9000

Maximum Number of Samples
The TDR9000 has been tested successfully with T-Doble 2.1 for all standard
duration and sampling rate combinations previously allowed by TRXField.
Table 1 describes these combinations.

Table 1 Acceptable Duration and Sampling Rates

Test Duration Sampling Rate

500 ms 10 KHz
1600 ms 10 KHz
10 s 1 KHz
30 s 500 Hz
1 minute 200 Hz
5 minutes 50 Hz
20 minutes 10 Hz

Other combinations are not prohibited, but, because of system limitations, any
TDR9000 test that exceeds 20,000 samples per channel results in an error
message at test run time.
