B. C. G. Russell Associates Market Research found that 60% of Jamaicans do not think that

going to a traditional high school make you more successful in the business world. If a

random sample of six (6) Jamaicans is selected, find these probabilities.

i. Exactly 4 people will agree with that statement. (2 marks)

ii. At most 2 people will agree with that statement. (5 marks)

iii. At least 4 people will agree with that statement. (5 marks)

iv. Fewer than 2 people will agree with that statement. (4 marks)

C. Seventy five percent (75%) of Jamaicans favor spending government money to develop

Early Childhood Education Facilities to strengthen literacy and numeracy amongst

Jamaicans. For a random sample of 200 Jamaicans, find the mean, variance, and standard

deviation for the number who favors this type of spending and interpret the results.

distribution? (3 marks)

B. Jamaica Public Service (JPS) Help Hot Line receives, on average, 10 calls per hour

asking for assistance. The highest number of call received in any 1 hour is 15. For any

randomly selected hour, find the probability that the company will receive:

i. At least 5 calls (5 marks)

ii. 4 to 7 calls (5 marks)

iii. At most 2 calls (4 marks)

B. The average number of gallons of Gatorade consumed by a Track and Field team at a

track meet in 2016 is 20, with a standard deviation of 4 gallons. Assume the variable is

normally distributed. At a similar track meet 2 weeks later with the same number of

athletes, find the probability of using:

i) Less than 25 gallons (5 marks)

ii) Between 15 and 21 gallons (5 marks)

C. At A College in Jamaica it was found that historically the scores on aptitude tests given to

applicants for entry to the institution follows a normal distribution with a standard

deviation of 30.5 points. A random sample of 100 test scores from the current group of

applicants had a mean score of 187.9 points

i. Find a 95% Confidence interval for the population mean score of the current
group of applicants. (3mks)

ii. If 45 of the applicants from the sample had a score that was acceptable by the
management, determine a 90% confidence interval for the population proportion.

Question 5- Correlation and Regression

An analysis of the performance of some players on a football team was done by the team

statistician. The players were randomly selected and the analysis focused on the number of

games the individual played and the amount of goals they scored. The data is shown below.
