MOTHERBOARD

A motherboard (alternatively known as the mainboard, main circuit board,

system board, baseboard, planar board or logic board, or colloquially, a mobo) is the
main printed circuit board (PCB) found in general purpose computers and other expandable
systems. It holds, and allows, communication between many of the crucial electronic
components of a system, such as the central processing unit (CPU) and memory, and provides
connectors for other peripherals. Unlike a backplane, a motherboard usually contains
significant sub-systems such as the central processor, the chipset's input/output and memory
controllers, interface connectors, and other components integrated for general purpose use
and applications.

Motherboardis specifically refers to a PCB with expansion capability and as the name
suggests, this board is often referred to as the "mother" of all components attached to it,
which often include peripherals, interface cards, and daughtercards: sound cards, video cards,
network cards, hard drives, or other forms of persistent storage; TV tuner cards, cards
providing extra USB or FireWire slots and a variety of other custom components.

Similarly, the term mainboard is applied to devices with a single board and no
additional expansions or capability, such as controlling boards in laser printers, televisions,
washing machines, mobile phones and other embedded systems with limited expansion
abilities. And, Next what is

The role of the motherboard as a computer backbone is not unreasonable, because the
motherboard has a variety of functions. In addition to its main function, namely as a media
that accommodates components on the computer, the motherboard also functions to set the
basic input / output system (BIOS) code on the chip read-only memory (ROM).

The BIOS code is a firmware, which firmware will not be lost even if the computer is
off and also cannot be changed by normal operating system processes or application software.
In addition, if you pay attention to the motherboard there is a collection of slots that
allow the use of external components or devices that can increase the flexibility of the
computer itself. The device in question is a printer, keyboard, mouse, audio jack, external
hard disk, or game stick. The device can be connected to a computer by connecting it directly
to the motherboard using the ports that have been provided. And next, I discuss function of
each component,

1. Processor Installation : will be adjusted to the type of socket, each socket will be different
and depending on the type of processor that will be installed.
2. Memory slot : Useful for installing RAM memory on your PC.
3. Northbridge : The main component that regulates data traffic between the processor and
system memory and the main channel of the motherboard.
4. Southbridge : A component that works to help northbridge
5. PCI Express x16 slot : A special slot for your VGA graphics card.
6. PCI Express x1 slot : Used to install a card slot other than your VGA graphics card.
7. AGP slot : The old type of VGA slot that is rarely functioning
8. PCI slot : General slot but with speeds below the AGP and PCI Express slots.
9. BIOS (Basic Input-Output System) : It functions and is used to store the configuration of a
motherboard.
10. Batrei CMOS : Batrei that supports / provides power to the system BIOS
11. SATA Port : Serves to connect the hard disk with a computer.
12. IDE Port : Serves as a storage medium before the SATA generation.
13. Port Flopy Disk : Serves as a port for inserting flash drives and the like.
14. Port Power : is a computer resource.
15. Back Panel : Port located on the back of the PC

16. PS / 2 Mouse port, for connecting a mouse to a computer.

17. PS / 2 Keyboard port, for installing the keyboard.
18. Parallel port, to install low-speed peripherals with eight bits of data width. Usually used to
install printers before USB generation.
19. Serial Port, used to install low-speed peripherals with serial data transfer mode. But now
rarely used.
20. SPDIF port, used to connect computers with audio peripherals such as home theater.
21. Port Firewire, for connecting high-speed external equipment such as video capture or video
streaming.
22. RJ45 port, used to connect computers with LAN networks.
23. USB port, used to interface with peripherals or new generation of external equipment that
replaces parallel and Serial ports.
24. Audio port, used to connect computers with audio systems such as speakers, microphones,
line-in and line-out.
