The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is a civil court that hears disputes between countries. The
International Court of Justice has no jurisdiction to try individuals accused of war crimes or crimes
against humanity. As it is not a criminal court, it does not have a prosecutor able to initiate proceedings.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is a criminal court that prosecutes individuals.

 Situation in Mali The Prosecutor v. Al Hassan Ag Abdoul Aziz Ag Mohamed Ag Mahmoud
ICC-01/12-01/18 Al-Hassan Ag Abdoul Aziz Ag Mohamed Ag Mahmoud Suspected of crimes
against humanity and war crimes allegedly committed in Timbuktu, Mali, between 2012 and
2013. Charges confirmed on 30 September 2019. Opening of the trial scheduled for 14 July

Omar Hassan Ahmad Al Bashir Suspected of five counts of crimes against humanity, two
