 Routing

Welcome to the FortiAI product training.

 Routing

These are the topics we will explore in this course, beginning with a product overview.
 Routing

After completing this course, you should be able to:

• Identify the business drivers and security challenges customers currently face
• Describe the FortiAI product key features
• Identify the sales strategies for, and competitive advantages of, FortiAI

There is no shortage of cyber attacks aimed at the

industry as a whole, from small business to
enterprises to MSSPs, everyone is a target.
The sad reality is that defending against every cyber
threat in today’s world is an impossible task because
• Cybersecurity analyst are overwhelmed,
• and there is no reprieve due to skills shortage,
• Thus most organizations are forced to recruit and
train junior employees instead of hiring experienced
cybersecurity professionals.
5

Currently, there are various industries introducing AI that have impacted either people, process and
technology such as online shopping experience, GPS assisted travel, self-driving cars, online
movie/tv-show recommendations, automated car factories, and many others.
6

Before we delve deeper into AI for security,

First, let’s define what AI is – it
is the capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behavior
There are three well-known AI model categories that grows more sophisticated as we move
from Machine Learning, to Artificial Neural Networks and finally Deep Neural Networks
7

Machine Learning uses data to refine how computers make predictions or perform a task
In this example, we are teaching the machine the letters of the alphabet so it able to
classify words like ‘bee’
8

Artificial Neural Network is more sophisticated than Machine Learning.

It is defined as a system of hardware and/or software patterned after the operation of
neurons in the human brain.
In this example, we teach AI the concept of bees and the various specimens within a
category so it can recognize the differences.
9

Deep Neural Networks (DNN) is most sophisticated form of AI.

It is defined as an Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) with two or more layers between input
and output layers to model complex non-linear relationships.
In this example, each ANN layer learns about the various specimens of bees, time of the
day and the difference between environments, respectively.
DNN uses the layers of ANN to fully describe the picture on the right.

At Fortinet we believe AI is the key to the future of cybersecurity and that is why in …
• 2012 FortiGuard Labs turned to building AI named SEDS to help it’s researchers and analysts to scale and keep up with the millions
of samples they are seeing
• after four years of training and fine tuning, FGL deploys AI into production powering antimalware engines in FTNT products
including FortiGate to consume AI applied threat intel for malware protection
• Fast forward to 2020, 8 years after the initial introduction of SEDs, Fortinet releases the most sophisticated AI model based on
Deep Neural Networks for customers to deploy on-premise that can self-learn in the form of FortiAI
11

FortiAI is first in the industry to offer an on-prem Deep Learning AI model that mimics a
Virtual Security Analyst to
identify, classify and investigate sophisticated threats in sub second.
It’s offered as an on-prem appliance and can be deployed as a standalone or integrated
with FortiGate.
12

The 5 key features of FortiAI include:

- An on-premise appliance that comes with pre-trained 6+ million malware features
- Based on 8+ years of development and training by FortiGuard Labs
- Powered by a patent-pending self learning AI model based on Deep Neural Networks
- Providing less than 100 ms of threat detection and investigation
- And handles 10G of network throughput
13

As part of developing a robust AI, FortiGuard Labs measured FortiAI security

efficacy and false positive as it’s training goals
• In the initial FAI training, FAI detection efficacy is much lower than a FGL
Analyst
• But as time passes, FAI is fine-tuned and through constant learning
• It surpasses the FGL Analyst and it continues to improve it’s efficacy and
false positive rate as it self-learns
• And that is why it can continue to evolve once deployed on a customer
network
14

• FortiAI can be deployed either in the Campus, Data-Center or Air-Gap networks.

• It works as a standalone mode via SPANning traffic from a switch or via network TAPs. It integrates with FortiGates where FGT can
decrypt or pass unencrypted objects to FAI for analysis.
