Electrical and Electronics Engineering

All engineers have one aspect in common in the work they do: applying scientific knowl-
edge to solve technical problems and develop products and services that benefit society.
Engineering work is by its very nature interdisciplinary, often bringing together engineers with
diverse expertise in not only electronics and power engineering, but also in mechanics,
chemistry, physics, mathematics, materials sciences, and many other areas.
The basic functions of engineering are defined by the sequencing of engineering work:
research, design and development, testing, manufacturing, construction, service and
maintenance, and management.

Introduction
A graduate programme in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) focuses on the
uses and application of electricity, electro-magnetism and electronics. Electrical and
Electronics Engineers are responsible for implementing and designing components for
any device that uses electricity. Electrical and Electronics Engineers are required to focus
on the generation of power for the device.
Electrical and Electronics Engineers also focus on research, creating, improving
products and devices. In simple words, EEE teaches the utilization of electricity for
various purposes and the different equipment in which it is applied.
The B.Tech programme in EEE has been designed in such a way so as to provide
excellent technical knowledge in the emerging areas like solar power, renewable
technology, etc. Many of these Engineers specialize in a branch, such as controls
systems, and in an application area, such as medical, computer, missile guidance,
and power distribution.

Higher Education Opportunities
There are higher education opportunities to pursue if you are interested in speciali-
sation and research and can opt for Masters programme (ME, MS, MTech) and there
after pursue PhD.
Those who wish to pursue higher education after a BTech in EEE one has have to clear
the competitive examinations like GATE.
A BTech graduate in Electrical and Electronics has the options to choose various
specializations in the Masters programme such as Power Electronics, VLSI Design, Em-
bedded Systems, Control and Instrumentation, Renewable Energy Technologies, Com-
munication Engineering and Signal Processing etc.

Placements

EEE students find placements fairly easily because most employers search for fresh
minds with good training. They are glad to get young people they can mould to their
own specific needs and turn them into experts.
This is also the reason why Electrical and Electronics engineers are the most valued on the
job market. After completing BTech, students have scope in both public and private sector
with regard to installation, operation and maintenance of electronics equipment and systems.
Also, one can choose careers in defense, space and other domains, which undertake
research on a large scale basis, employ electronics engineers in developing and designing
systems and devices for telecommunication and signal processing.
One can find jobs also in power sector, steel plants, petroleum and chemical industry.
