8 May DEADLINE FOR THE PAPER ON A CHAPTER FROM MITCHELL’S NOVEL

Description: The purpose of this course is to provide an environment where students can get acquainted with
British literary texts that are contemporary to them. Its goal is to create an ongoing conversation about the
readings, a conversation based on both literary analyses and artistic rethinkings of the texts. Students are given
the possibility to discover new authors and artworks, bring their favourites to class and propose their own
readings.
Reference literature: Students should carry out research (both in libraries and online) about the authors and
their texts. Upon request students will be provided with materials facilitating their work.
Requirements: To complete this course the students must read all the assigned material and study the
respective items of reference literature too. Students are asked to always bring the primary text(s) to class.
For one short story, one play and one poem, students are required to present a written paper. This can take the
form of summary, literary analysis or a new literary piece (forming a dialogue with, reflection on or a different
kind of connection to the text students read). For the novel, students will write a short analysis of one chapter of
their choice.
Grading policy: Grades will be based on general class-work (50%) and assignments (50%).
Attendance is monitored, two absences are allowed without excuse.
All courses held at this institute will be graded on the basis of students’ English language skills as well as
the specifics of the particular course.
