Tips for good writing… P T

I have added my name, class and number to the top of this task.
The margins on the left and right are 2 cm, the line spacing is 1,5, font Calibri, 10 or 11px
I spell-checked my text with the help of WORD (mistakes are underlined by WORD)
I didn’t start sentences with THERE unnecessarily (use the real subject).
AND and BUT are connectors, they can’t start a sentence.
I used a wide range of vocabulary (use www.thesaurus.com)
Whenever I used IF, I thought about the rules for the conditional clauses.
I didn’t speculate about the hypothetical contents/possible ending of/sequel to the story.
My text is a reflection: my views, feelings and ideas on what is happening in this story.
I separated my text in meaningful paragraphs (one idea each)
I referenced my quotes correctly (short APA in the text + full bibliography at the end)
Whenever I stated an idea, I proved it with examples/quotes from the story.
I read my text a second time and edited it to make better, sharper, clearer…
I uploaded my document to the Smartschool > Uploadzone.

Your task will be marked against these criteria:

CONTENT AND STRUCTURE
- Does what you say make any sense in relation to this story?
- Is your text a reflection (your views and ideas about what is happening in the story)
- Did you structure your text in paragraphs with separate ideas?
- Are your paragraphs connected to each other?
- Did you prove what you are stating (examples, quotes, etc.)
- Did you reference your quotes? (APA-style: short form in the text, long form in the bibliography).

LANGUAGE AND STYLE

- How accurate is your language grammatically? (tenses, 3r person S, if-clauses, spelling)
- How wide is your range of vocabulary?
- Does your text hit the target of words?

Paste your 400 word text on the next page (below the page separation line), starting with a title.
Your task should fit one A4-page (use Calibri 10px if too long).

Print your task front/back on one page or front/front on two pages. Staple together and bring to
the class.
The Kiss

I'll start by saying that I thought it was a book that made me feel a lot, it may be small but it has a bigger effect
than a 300 page book. The events at the beginning of the story remind me of the nights I go out with friends. Of
course we also drank a bit too much, and therefore sometimes something stupid. But what they do in the story
we have never done and we never will do. If I'm drunk in the water I'd panic right away. You might say that the
alcohol would make me think it's normal, but I'm someone who's not really a fan of seas and oceans. My grand-
mother was bitten by a jellyfish once and from that moment on I don't really feel safe in the sea anymore. I was
also surprised that the author (Peter Goldsworthy) used such rude/juvenile language in the book. I just have
the feeling that the book was written in 2022 by a 16 year old boy.
I am normally someone who reads a book just because he has to read it and then when I read I am distracted
by something small every 3 minutes. But not in this book, because the tension kept rising in the book. The
scene when Tom says he had no energy at all really gave me the creeps, because then you know there's a very
good chance that Tom will end badly. And unfortunately that happens. I can't believe that Kenny uses Tom's
body to survive. He may be your friend and you desperately want to survive, but out of respect you are not
going to put clothes down Tom's throat. If I was in that situation, I'd try to get Tom to the mainland to make
sure he got a proper funeral there. The thing that I also recognize in the story is that it starts funny and well but
at the end of the story everything is almost negative. I've had that a lot in my life, such as my parents' divorce. I
also think the name of the story is strange, but also clever in a different way. Everyone (including me) who gets
their hands on the book immediately thinks of 2 people who are in love when they see the title and that they
eventually kiss. But I never saw this kind of kiss coming.
It is a book that taught me the dangers of alcohol.
