Expansion Perceptual March until now, the
Theory theories new normal medium of
communication that we
are using is on social
media platform. But even
in the past where there is
no pandemic yet, we
recently used gadgets
but not as relevant as of
now. Based on my
personal experience, my
father can’t go home due
to the fact that there are
no public utility vehicles
from Manila to
Pangasinan. To
communicate with him,
we use cell phone and
the app face book or
messenger. We have that
face-to-face
communication but in

Theory in application
The ICT Succession theory focuses on the
combined use of different Information and
Communications Technologies (ICTs) to
perform a certain task. In my case, my task
is to teach and handle seven sections of
students through the blended learning
approach during this time of pandemic. I
have to use a “succession” of devices and
platforms to perform all my tasks and also
for my students to do all their activities.
We have face-to-face synchronous online
classes and online asynchronous modular
activities. We also use various materials
and content in the Internet aside from the
locally prepared instructional materials.
We also use the MS Teams page for
quizzes, exams and other class activities.
Channel expansion theory explains that
as individual gain more experience with
a particular communication medium,
the medium becomes richer for them.
With experience, the authors argued,
users learn how to encode and decode
affective messages using a particular
channel. As a person who belonged to
computer age, and a student I already
used and experienced social media
since grade 7 as my research center,
communication medium and many
more. I already adjusted for this new
platform that’s why it’s not that hard
for me to come up and abide with this
new norm. Video calls, sending and
uploading files, encoding and decoding
messages via social media is not new to
me, it’s just that it become more
noticeable and usable during these
days. This experience will not let me
suffer but rather, it will expand and
widen my knowledge and experience

virtual form. Our classes
also started on the first
week of September and
as a platform of PSU
Lingayen, we’re using
Microsoft teams to
communicate with our
instructors via video call,
we also download files
and modules that we’re
using for our lessons and
topics.We also upload
our assignments and
activities in this app. I
came up with this new
platform by the use of
my cellphone and laptop.

and will let me add more things that I
don’t know yet. I will compare my
knowledge in cell phone, I already
discovered things on the cyber world
but there is a need to update, in order
for me to become more flexible and
resilient, from the word “expansion”. It
is not like book that what is there is
already fixed, in social media or
internet, from time to time there are
apps that needs to be updated to abide
with the expansion and broadening of
things in there to keep up with their
functions virtually.
