Two-Piece Cast Compressor Pistons
In Ariel's continuing process to offer a better product to the customer, we are now
converting all cast pistons 7-1/2” and larger, to a two-piece design. The design will
improve casting integrity and strength. An illustration showing the assembly of the two-
piece piston is on page 2.

As a result of the two-piece design, a change in balance is inevitable when installing on

a unit that originally had one-piece pistons. When ordering a piston included in the
design change, please contact Ariel Engineering so balance records can be generated.
Expect the possibility of having to install a new crosshead or a change in crosshead-
piston rod balance nuts, to achieve proper weight balance.

This new design uses the same piston rings and wear-bands as the one-piece design.
When purchasing piston rings and wear bands the same Ariel part numbers can be
used.

This Customer Technical Bulletin (No. 70) supersedes No. 42.
