FLATNESS DEFINITION AND MEASUREMENT STRATEGIES ON CMM
ISO 1101 - distance
between two parallel
planes, confining the
surface, oriented in such
manner that the distance
between the planes is a
minimum possible value

sampling strategy - one of the

key parameters in flatness
measurement uncertainty
budget – predifined and detail
analysis approach

here investigated - grid method

defined in ISO 12781-2

EXPERIMENTAL SETUP
An investigation was performed in order to analyse the effect of different probe styli
(tip size) and different sampling strategies on the results of flatness measurement
with two different probing methods: single point measurement and continuous
scanning measurement.

CONCLUSIONS

 the results showed and confirmed the great influence of sampling

size on accuracy of CMM flatness measurement
 the rectangular grid sampling strategy with size of 15 lines optimal
for the investigated measuring task
 the results confirmed advantages of scanning compared to single
point probing
 the influence of stylus tip size on the measurement result was
much smaller and less significant comparing to the one due to
sample size
