“Globalization really started 1,000 years ago”-Professor Valerie Hansen

1. Based on how the author sees and explains Globalization, globalization is a

process. In what we know, the year 1870 was the start of Globalization but the

article states a plausible theory that it started in a much more later year, in the

year 1000. The author stated that in the year 1000, the Vikings landed on theth

Canadian island. The Vikings started to trade with the people with their goods.

Then followed by Muslim traders and missionaries .This theory shows us that

Vikings started globalization and whenever they have landed on their voyage,

others adapt to their customs of trading thus spreading the trade system that we

now know as globalization. This process then began to expand throughout the

world.

2. The description of the article is anchored on culture and communication experts.

The first reason is simple, expansions. The Vikings trade system was carried on

to the place they voyaged. The people who they have met during their expedition

adapted to their system thus began its expansion throughout the world. The

second reason is “borderless world”. Even though the article shows only that the

Vikings have sailed only into Canada, it does not deny that it is a borderless

world back then. The people who they met during their expedition welcomed

them thus in return they introduced them into the trading the world.
