Lesson 4. Mensuration Problems

Highlights

A. What is mensuration?
 It is a part of GEOMETRY that is concerned with the three dimensions of
measurements:
➢ one-dimensional (lengths)
➢ two-dimensional (areas)
➢ three-dimensional (volumes)

B. Give 5 examples of plane figures.

 Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Circles, Star Polygons, and Elliptical Section.

C. Give 5 examples of solid figures.

 Rectangular Solid. Cube, as solids for which V=Bh. The Pyramid having as
V=1/3Bh. The Frustum and Prismatoid for V=(Mean)Bh.

D. Give the formula for the following:

1. Area of a regular polygon

Lesson 5. Geometry and Trigonometry Problems

Highlights
FIRST QUARTER, SY2020-2021 GED 102 WEEK 5

A. State the Pythagorean Theorem

The Pythagorean Theorem states that the square of the hypotenuse is equal to
the sum of the squares of the other two sides. Having the formula: c 2=a2+ b2.
The Pythagorean Theorem is used to find the side of a right triangle.

B. State the Sine Law and the Cosine Law

As for the Sine Law or Law of Sines, It is the relationship between the sides and
angles of non-right (oblique) triangles .  Simply, it states that the ratio of the
length of a side of a triangle to the sine of the angle opposite that side is the
same for all sides and angles in each triangle.

It is useful for solving triangles having:

a b C
= =
sin A sin B sin C

C. Write three (3) specific areas where Trigonometry can be applied.

First is we have the plane Trigonometry that is Concerned with 2-dimensional
triangles. Next is Spherical Trigonometry that is Concerned with triangles drawn
in the surface of a sphere. Lastly,Plane Trigonometry for right triangles.
Everything can be applied to Measuring heights of buildings and mountains,
Development of Video Games, Construction, Navigation and Oceanography, and
Nature as what Our Professor had taught us.
