Q.1 Choose the Correct Answer:
1. To ensure that the following system of equation,
𝑋1 + 4𝑋2 + 2𝑋3 = 15
5𝑋1 + 2𝑋2 + 𝑋3 = 12
𝑋1 + 2𝑋2 + 5𝑋3 = 20
is converge using Gauss-Seidel method, one can rewrite as:

1 4 2 15 5 2 1 12
a. 5 2 1 = 12 c. 1 4 2 = 15
1 2 5 20 1 2 5 20

5 2 1 15
b. 1 4 2 = 12 d. none of them.
1 2 5 20

2. The first positive root of equation (x2 | sin x |= 4.1) occurs in the interval ……..
a. [0,1] c. [3,4]
b. [1,2] d. none of them.

3. When equation (𝟖𝒙𝟑 − 𝟐𝒙 − 𝟏 = 𝟎) is solved by simple iterative method, it’s found that the 1st positive
root is occurs in the interval -------.
a. [0,1] c. [2,3]
b. [1,2] d. none of them.

4. Given the following table and by using quadratic interpolation, y (3.4) will be:
a. 1.223 c. 1.232
b. 1.322 d. none of them
x 3 3.5 4
y 1.098 1.252 1.386

5. The solution to the set of equations below, most nearly is (X, Y, Z) =

10 X + Y + 2 Z = 44
2 X + 10 Y + Z = 51
X + 2 Y + 10 Z = 61
a. (5, 3, 4) c. (3, 4, 5)
b. (4, 5, 3) d. none of them.

is (3), is (2.166).
2. In the Gauss elimination method, the given system is transformed into an equivalent system with lower
- triangular matrix.
3. The 1st positive root of equation (𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒙 − 𝟐𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒉𝒙 = 𝟎) occurs in the interval [0,1].
4. The process of finding the value of (x), corresponding to a given (y) which is not in the table, is called
″ Inverse Interpolation ″.
5. In bisection method if root lies between (a) and (b), then f (a) × f (b) is  0.

Q.3 The temperature T (in oC) and length L (in mm) of a heated rod is given in the following table, if:
