Assessment 01. Essay.

1. What agent of socialization affects the individual the most? Explain your answer.
Personally, the family affects the individual the most as an agent of socialization. This agent
is the individual’s first teachers of culture, beliefs and values of society. From mothers and
fathers, siblings and as well as the grandparents, all teach a child what he or she needs to know.
For example, the parents teach their child through showing how to use the objects such as
utensils, books and clothes. Also, on how to communicate in a good way with others such as
friends, other members of the family and still others as strangers or even neighbors. The family
also helps us to distinguish the good and the bad when we are committing an action.

2.Why do you think socialization matters?

With that, people are taught to be proficient members of the society. And through
socialization, people learn societal norms, beliefs and values. By the means of that, the
individual will follow the rules that are being set by the authorities. And also, they will easily
distinguish between the good and the bad. Socialization also matters when an individual plays
different roles and statuses. We need to fulfill those roles and responsibilities. For instance, a
man may have the status of father in his family. In other ways, socialization matters when there
are new members of the society. In order to adopt the environment, they need to socialize to
learn the culture and as well as beliefs of the particular society.
