Lesson Title: My Many Colored Days
Grade Level: K-4

Learning Objective:
K - I can identify 5 feelings (happy, sad, angry/mad, scared, surprised). I can
draw 3 out of 5 feelings faces
1 -I can identify 7 feelings (happy, sad, angry/mad, scared, surprised, tired,
disgusted). I can draw 5 out of 7 feelings faces

2 - I can idenfity 10 feelings (Happy, Sad, Angry/Mad, Scared, Surprised,

Tired, Shy, Disgusted, Nervous, Confused). I can match the correct feeling to
various situations. I can draw 8 out of 10 feelings faces
3-4 - I can identify 10 feelings (Happy, Sad, Angry/Mad, Scared, Surprised,
Tired, Shy, Disgusted, Nervous, Confused). I can use colors to represent the
many feelings that make up the person I am.

Materials Needed:
1. Feeling Faces Fans (Happy, Sad, Angry/Mad, Scared, Surprised, Tired, Shy,
Disgusted, Nervous, Confused); Emoji Faces (same feelings)
2. My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss
3. Worksheets - Draw A Face (K,1) and Feelings Scenarios (2), My Feelings
Heart
4. Crayons/Markers

Formative Assessment (acceptable evidence):

K,1 - Students will be asked to complete an activity where they will have to
draw a face that corresponds to a feeling word. Students will then self-report
how they are feeling by drawing their own feelings face.
2 - Students will be asked to complete an activity where they have to read
various scenarios and name the feeling that would be associated with that
scenario. They will then be asked to draw the feeling face that goes with it.

Lesson Preparation:
Essential Questions:
K,1- Can you identify 5-7 feelings and draw a face to represent those
feelings?
2 - Can you identify 10 feelings and draw a face to represent those feelings?
Can you match the correct feeling to various scenarios?
Engagement/Hook:
Feelings Fans - Counselor will uses feelings faces to introduce the concept of
identifying feelings to students.

Instructional Procedures:
Counselor(s):
1. Counselor will start by holding up the feelings faces fans to her face and
have the students identify them. If students are unable to identify them, the
counselor will explain to them what feeling the face represents and how they
can tell.
2. Counselor will begin a discussion with the student about whether or not
they have ever felt any of the feelings that were introduced and to discuss a
time when they have experienced those feelings.
3. Counselor will read the story My Many Colored Days to the students and
will begin a discussion with them about the various colors that were in the
book and what those colors represented.
4. Counselor will review the feelings faces again and will have the students
show her what each face would look like with their own faces.
5. Counselor will show students emoji faces that represent the same feelings
and will give the students the Draw A Face, Feelings Scenarios, or My
Feelings Heart worksheet to complete.
Students:
1. Students will watch as the counselor holds up the feelings faces fans and
will identify what feeling the face represents.
2. Students will participate in the discussion about when they have felt either
of the feelings discussed.
3. Students will listen as the counselor reads the story and will participate in
the discussion about what the colors in the story represented.
4. Students will show the counselor what their faces would like like if they
were portraying each of the feelings discussed.
5. Students will complete the Draw A Face and Feelings Scenario worksheet
using the emoji faces as a reference if needed.
6. Students will complete the My Feelings Heart worksheet using the color
guide provided by the counselor where they will color their heart to represent
their many feelings.
