Lesson Title: My Healthy Body
Grade Level: K-4
Big Idea:
PS 3. Applying Personal Safety Skills and Coping Strategies

Grade Level Expectations:


K - Idenitify safe and healthy choices as home and school; idenfity

1 - Identify steps of problem solving and decision making for personal
safety; idenfity personal safety strategies.

safety; apply personal safety strategies as they relate to different situations.

make safe and healthy life choices at school; idenfity issues that impact

Learning Objective:
K-4 - I can identify healthy and unhealthy drugs.

K-4 - I can identify individuals who are safe to take healthy drugs from
K-4 - I can explain what to do if someone offers me unhealthy drugs

Materials Needed:
Computer (internet - brainpop jr. and Kahoot)
Worksheets (K - Who can I take medicine from; 1 - Which choices are good
and which choices are bad)

Formative Assessment (acceptable evidence):


K-1 - Students will complete two worksheets to show their understanding of
individuals that are safe to take medicine from as well as healthy and
unhealthy choices.
2-4 - Student will play Kahoot to check for understanding of subject
material.

Lesson Preparation:
Essential Questions:
What is the difference between healthy and unhealthy drugs?
Who are you able to take medicine from?
What do you do if someone offers you unhealthy drugs?
Engagement/Hook:
Students will help the counselor list what healthy and unhealthy drugs are

Instructional Procedures:
Counselor(s):
1. Counselor will ask students to help her make a list of healthy and
unhealthy drugs.
2. Counselor will show students 2-3 videos from brainpop jr. that discuss
medicine and unhealthy drugs and will begin a discussion with the students
about what was talked about in the videos.

3. K-1st grade students will complete two worksheets. The first worksheet for
kindergarten will require students to identify individuals that they are
allowed to take medication from and the second worksheet will aks them to
draw a picture of something that they can "say yes to". The first
worksheet for 1st grade will require students to identify safe and unsafe
choices for their health and the second worksheet will ask them to draw a
picture of something that they can "say yes to"
4. 2nd -4th grade students will take a quiz on Kahoot to check for their
understanding of the information they learned about safe and unsafe choices
as well as healthy and unhealthy choices.
Students:
1. Students will provide examples of healthy and unhealthy drugs as
counselor writes them under the correct category on the board.
2. Students will watch the videos and participate in the disucussion about
what was mentioned in the videos.
3. K-1st grade students will complete the first worksheet and go over the
answers with the counselor. They will then complete the second worksheet
(if time permits) and share their picture with the class.
4. 2nd -4th grade students will play Kahoot.
