ASCA National Standards: PS:A2.8 Learn how to make and keep friends Learning Objective: - I can state what it means to be a good friend - I can name good qualities of a friend Materials Needed: -Clara Caterpillar Book -Friendship Butterfly Worksheets -Markers/Crayons/Scissors Formative Assessment: Students will create a friendship butterfly that has wings with good friendship qualities written on them. Lesson Preparation: Essential Questions: 1. What does it mean to be a good friend? 2. What are good qualities of a friend? Engagement/Hook: Students will listen to the story Clara Caterpillar Instructional Procedures: Counselor(s): 1. Counselor will explain to students that our topic for today is friendship. 2. Counselor will ask students to answer essential questions listed above. 3. Counselor will read the story Clara Caterpillar to the students and will have a discussion about what friendship qualities they noticed in the story. 4. Counselor will then inform students that they are going to make a friendship butterfly. Their butterfly will consist of 4 wings and they will need to write one good friendship quality on each of the wings. They will then cut the wings out and glue them onto their colored butterfly. 5. Counselor will then give students time to work on their butterfly. 6. After students complete their butterfly they will have the opportunity to share it with the class. Students: 1.Students will listen as counselor explains the topic for the day. 2. Students will participate in the discussion about the essential questions listed above. 3. Students will listen to the story and participate in the discussion about the friendship qualities they noticed. 4. Students will listen as the counselor explains their activity for the day. 5. Students will complete their butterfly. 6. Students will share their butterfly with the rest of the class.
