(Language Arts) for Grade 5 Quarter 4

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, 80% of the Grade 5 learners will be able to:
a. analyze the different facial expression in a sentence;
b. appreciate the uses of appropriate facial expression through reading and communicating; and
c. apply the knowledge of different facial expression through the given activity.

kind of expression it is.

Our topic for today is all about “Use Appropriate Facial Expressions: Determining
Appropriate Facial Expression in A Sentence”

E. Discussion

In our daily lives, we communicate, read, listen, and watch dramas on T.V., we also notice
that actors use facial expressions to emphasize their emotion and to give impact to the
viewers. By the way class, what is Facial Expression?

Facial Expression – can display personal emotions and indicate an individual’s intentions
within a social situation and are extremely important for social interaction.

Based on our motivation earlier, we discover the 6 facial expressions and they are:
1. Disgust
2. Sadness
3. Happy
4. Anger
5. Fear
6. Surprise

So now class, let’s have an understanding what are these facial expressions.

Disgust – a feeling of revulsion or strong disapproval provoked by something unpleasant or


offensive.

Sadness – emotional pain associated with, or characterized by, feelings of disadvantage,


loss, despair, grief, helplessness, disappointment and sorrow.

Happy – is a feeling that comes over you when you know life is good and you can’t help but
smile. It’s the opposite of sadness. Happiness is a sense of well-being, joy, or contentment.
When people are successful, safe or lucky – they feel happy.

Fear – an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous
and is likely to cause pain or threat.
Angry – it is a strong feeling of annoyance or displeasure and often of active opposition to
an insult, injury, or injustice.

Surprise – it is an unexpected or astonishing event, fact, or a thing. To cause to feel wonder


or amazement because of being unexpected.

Emotional Expressions are necessary to enhance messages, to convey authenticity and to


develop trust.

So, these are the 6 facial expression that we discussed for today. Now, let’s try out and
choose the right facial expression whether it is sad, happy, fear, angry, disgust or surprise in
every sentence that we read.

1. Jonathan was so excited that he can’t stop talking about the movie he watched.
2. I am so scared that my dog will die.
3. Some children hate the smell of durian.
4. It makes me sad knowing that I can’t go play outside.
5. John was so annoyed that he broke his airplane toy.

F. Application

The teacher will divide the class into two groups. Group 1 to the right side and group 2 to the left
side. The teacher will give each group a brown envelope which contains their activity. The
learners will have to underline the expression and determine where it belongs from the six facial
expressions discussed earlier. Learners will have to present their answers to the class.

Group 1 Activity
______1. Anna was so excited to show her report card to her mother.
______2. The dog barks at the cat up on a tree angrily.
______3. Lucy was nervous before the announcement of winners.
______4. Sarah was so worried that she can’t find the house key.
______5. Tom was lost into the woods. He was afraid the he would not be able to return to
the campsite.

Group 2 Activity
______1. As the smell of garbage drifted through the air, she wrinkled her nose in disgust.
______2. The magician amazed the audience with his magic tricks.
______3. The dog gets mad when the kids tease him.
______4. Anna is filled with joy when she knows that she’s going to have a sister.
______5. Jenny was disappointed because their plan was postponed.

G. Generalization
Remember class that facial expression can display personal emotions and indicate an individual’s
intentions within a social situation and are extremely important for social interaction.

Based on our discussion, we acquire of knowing the 6 different facial expression and they are
disgust, sad, happy, angry, fear, and surprise.

Facial Expressions are necessary to enhance messages, to convey authenticity and to develop
trust.
