ENGINEERING

Talk about how important is your career for the community?

We are sure that civil engineering plays a significant role in the life of each person who makes up
our world. In theirs, in ours and in that of all the people that they can imagine. The reasons attend
to the functions that continue within our day to day, although sometimes we are not even
determined of it.

To give you an idea of what we are counting, you can reflect for a very brief moment on the
number of times you have traveled on a road, on the occasions that you have crossed a bridge, on
the frequency with which you cross a route in train, in the times you have caught a plane at an
airport or a bus at any station.

Everything we have just told you is part of the world of civil engineering. The construction of
roads, bridges, railways, airports and stations are civil works that have been built to facilitate the
organization and behavior of society.

what is civil engineering?

The engineering sector has its history, like everything. It seems that its earliest practices date back
to the years 4,000 and 2,000 a. C. It is a practice that “uses knowledge of calculation, hydraulic
mechanics and physics to load the design, construction and maintenance of infrastructures”. We
found them, as we have been telling you, on bridges, dams, railways, roads, etc.

Its priority objective is to satisfy social needs and its construction involves the infrastructure of a
city or town. Its importance lies not only in social impact, but also in its path alongside cultures
and generations.

Why are civil works being built?

The reason that first comes to mind when we ask this question is usually to cover a series of social
needs. However, in a more concrete sense, they serve the following reasons:

Improve communication between cities. This is manifested through the construction of roads for
the means of transportation (tunnels, roads, railways, bridges, etc.).

To organize public roads. This point focuses on urban and interurban areas.

To facilitate movement. As in the first reason, civil works not only improve communication, but
also displacement.

To improve the living conditions of the population. It is achieved thanks to the constructions
received, as well as other hydraulic or environmental works.

How do we get it today?

Throughout their careers, civil engineering engineers have witnessed a clear evolution in the ways
of working. They have gone from using traditional forms to using tools that increasingly attend to
technology. Examples are some current instruments, such as the drone. Its high resolution allows
capturing images and supervising the development of projects.
Furthermore, its capacity extends to the capture of georeferenced images that allows those
responsible for the work to certify execution processes, prepare reports and generate correct
measurements. Its technology locates what was previously invisible.

Precisely because technology is a constant advance, civil engineering professionals must be

prepared to acquire and train them. Since then, the aerial perspective has already become a
necessity for which many experts are betting strongly, not only for the advantages it offers but for
the costs it avoids.
