Date: 17 Sept – 25 October

Day 61 -100
• Rev 7:9-10
9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could
number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and
before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and
crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the
throne, and to the Lamb!”
• John 17:20-23
20 “Ido not pray for these alone, but also for those who [a]will believe in Me through
their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that
they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And
the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are
one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the
world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
Day 61-63

• The literal translation of the Malay term 'Orang Asli' is 'original

people'. The Orang Asli are generally classified under three main
groups - Negrito (Semang), Senoi, and Proto-Malay (aboriginal
Malay), with about 18 ethnic groups under them, collectively.
• The three main groups of Orang Asli mostly live in different parts
of Peninsular Malaysia, namely:
1. Negrito - northern region.
2. Senoi - central region.
3. Proto-Malay - southern region.
• The indigenous peoples of Peninsular Malaysia are collectively
known as Orang Asli. The 18 Orang Asli subgroups within the
Negrito (Semang), Senoi and Aborigen-Malay groups represent
around 210,000 people or 0.7% of the population of Peninsular
Malaysia. https://www.iwgia.org/en/malaysia.htm

Historically they engaged in trade with the local population that eventually invaded their lands and were also
often subjected to slave raids while also paying tributes to the local Southeast Asian rulers and kingdoms. Some
Negrito pygmies from the southern forests were enslaved and exploited from AD 724 until modern times. While
some have lived in isolation others have become assimilated with the general local population.

Senoi is the largest group of Orang Asli, their share is about 54 percent of the total number of Orang Asli. The
word "Senoi" means "human being" or "person". In the past the Senoi were long called "sakai" by the
Malaysians, which means "bestial aborigine" or "slave." The term sakai is a derogatory term in Malay
language and its derivative word menyakaikan means "to treat with arrogance and contempt". However, for
the Senoi people mensakai means "to work together. Senoi often were captured by Malaysians and sold as
slaves. Why are the Senoi called "the dream people"? Dreams were very important in the life of the Senoi. In
the morning the entire family, discussed their dreams they had that night.

The term Proto-Malay, which translates to Melayu Asli (aboriginal Malay) or Melayu Purba (ancient
Malay) or Melayu Tua (old Malay), refers to Austronesian speakers, possibly from mainland Asia, who
moved to the Malay peninsula and Malay archipelago in a long series of migrations between 2500
and 1500 BC. The etymological origin of "Melayu" to Sungai Melayu ('Melayu river') in Sumatra,
Indonesia. The term is thought to be derived from the Malay word melaju, a combination of the
verbal prefix 'me' and the root word 'laju', meaning "to accelerate", used to describe the accelerating
strong current of the river.

is a colourful and rich mosaic of ethnic groups. Most
of Sabah’s more than 3.5 million people can be
considered as minorities within the context of the
whole country, since they are for the most part non-
Malay and are either indigenous (approximately 60
per cent), Chinese (about 9.6%) or from ethnic
groups originating from southern Philippines,
Indonesia or other parts of Malaysia. Some of the

About 30 percent of the population of Sabah comprises of Kadazandusun tribe and they are the largest ethnic
group in Sabah. Their ancient beliefs suggest that everything has life–the rocks, trees, and rivers are all living
things. Kadazandusun tribe produces the majority of Sabah’s agricultural products, but increasingly most
members live in towns and hold everyday jobs. They are well known for the harvest festival, held during May,
where the priest presides over a ceremony performed to appease the rice spirit.

The Bajau community is the second largest indigenous group in Sabah and they make up about 15% of the state's
population. The Bajaus are traditionally divided into two groups - the West Coast and the East Coast.
The West Coast Bajau people settled in the inland along the western and northern coasts, while the East Coast
Bajaus settled along Sabah's east coast, concentrated in Semporna. The main distinction between these two communities is
their land/sea orientation. The West Coast Bajaus focus on rice cultivation and livestock rearing. They can mostly be found
in places like Kota Belud, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Papar. On the contrary, the East Coast Bajaus are mostly referred to as
'sea gypsies' - they traditionally live in stilt water villages with fishing being their main source of income. They have mostly
settled around Semporna, Lahad Datu, and Kunak. These people are also known to have great diving skills.

Borneo. They can mostly be found in areas around Keningau, Tenom, Nabawan, Pensiangan and along the river
areas of Sapulut, Padas, and Kinabatangan.
Murut literally means the 'hill people'. Similar to the Ibans, Murut people were once popular headhunters but
have since abandoned their old traditions to make way for farming and hunting instead. They are also involved
in the cultivation of rice, tapioca, fishing, and blowpipe hunting.

• Sarawak is nicknamed "Land of the Hornbills"

(Bumi Kenyalang). These birds are important
cultural symbols for the Dayak people. Sarawak's
population is very diverse, comprising many races
and ethnic groups. Sarawak has more than
40 sub-ethnic groups, each with its own distinct
language, culture and lifestyle. This makes
Sarawak demography very distinct and unique
compared to its Peninsular counterpartIn general,
there are six major ethnic groups in
Sarawak: Iban, Chinese, Malay, Bidayuh, Orang
Ulu, Melanau and several minor ethnic group
AGPC Day 67 : Sept 22
Also known as Sea Dayaks during the British colonial days, the Iban community are historically renowned for their ancient
headhunting practices and for being a fiercely loyal warring tribe during the olden days.
Their excellent headhunting and tracking skills also came in handy during the Japanese occupation in the 1940s. Many Iban
warriors fought against Japanese soldiers during military operations, and 14 of them were awarded with medals for helping
to liberate the nation from communists.
Traditionally, Ibans live in communal structures referred to as longhouses (rumah panjai) but today many of these
longhouses are equipped with modern facilities like washing machines, telephone lines, and the Internet. Sadly, there are

The Bidayuh, also known as the 'Land Dayak', is the second largest indigenous group in Sarawak. Bidayuh
means 'inhabitants of the land' and they make up about 8% of the Sarawak population.
Concentrated mainly on the far west of Sarawak, most rural Bidayuh villages can be found in the rural areas of
Lundu, Bau, Padawan, Siburan, Penrissen, and Serian. The rural Bidayuh community traditionally practice
shifting rice cultivation, however, in recent times, they have moved to be involved with producing crops like
rubber, cocoa, pepper, and palm oil. Like the Ibans and most other indigenous communities, the Bidayuhs are
traditionally animists but in the recent years, a large number of them have adopted the Christian faith.

Orang Ulu is the fourth largest ethnic group in Sarawak and they make up about 6.7% of the Sarawak population.
However, Orang Ulu is not a legal term and such a racial group does not exist. It is a phrase that was coined and popularised
by a minority association known as 'Orang Ulu National Association' (OUNA) to collectively describe around 27 small, yet
ethnically diverse tribes in northeastern Sarawak, including the Apo-Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit, Lun Bawang, Kayan and Penan
people. The Kelabit community can mostly be found in the Kelabit Highlands, in the northernmost part of Sarawak, located
about 100km southeast of Gunung Mulu in Bario. The Kelabits and their neighbouring Lun Bawang people produce the
fragrant, sought-after Bario rice.
The Bario Revival was one of the most massive outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon a community in our nation’s history. But
what happened in 1973 was only the beginning. Despite the ebb and flow of the waves, three more outpouring would come
in 1975, 1979, and 1984.

Also known as the A-Likou (river people), there are around 123,410 Melanau people, making it the fifth largest
ethnic group in Sarawak. Sarawak's south-central coastal wetlands between Bintulu and the Rajang River has
been the traditional territory of the Melanau people for centuries, concentrated in areas such as Oya and
Mukah. They speak the Melanau language, which has more than 10 dialects under it. The Melanaus were
traditionally farmers, fishermen, and traders.

Malaysian Chinese people or Chinese Malaysians[6] (Chinese: 馬來西亞華人; Malay: Orang

Cina Malaysia) is a local ethnic group in Malaysia. The group is defined as Malaysian
citizens of Chinese (Han Chinese) ethnicity. Today, they form the second largest ethnic group
after the Malay majority. The proportion of ethnic Chinese among the country's total
population has been consistently declining, partially due to a lower birth rate as well as a
high level of emigration in recent decades

Malaysian Indians or Indian Malaysians (Tamil: மலேசிய இந்தியர்கள் ) is a local ethnic group in
Malaysia. The group is defined as local Malaysians of Indian or South Asian ancestry. Today, they form the third
largest group in Malaysia after the Malays and the Chinese. Most are descendants of those who migrated from
India to Malaysia during the British colonisation of Malaya. Majority of Malaysian Indians are ethnic Tamil

• Malaysia has become a magnet for foreign workers from neighboring
lower-income countries, owing to fast and steady economic progress.
The foreign workforce has been hovering around 15 percent of the
total labor force in recent years according to Labour Force Surveys by
the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). The members of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have committed to
facilitate the movement of high-skilled workers, and yet, many
foreign workers in Malaysia tend to be low-skilled, work in labor-
intensive sectors such as the manufacturing, construction,
plantation, agriculture, and domestic helper sectors. Indonesians
continue to be the dominant foreign worker group, benefiting from
geographical and cultural proximity, albeit on a declining trend. This
foreign labor participation has direct macroeconomic implications.
Who is My Neighbor?
The term “Good Samaritan” is well known in both religious and secular circles generally referring to a good person that helps a
stranger in need. But what is the Good Samaritan story really about and why choose it as the name of our organization? In
Luke 10, a lawyer talks with Jesus about how he might inherit eternal life. He knows he must follow the Jewish law – love your
neighbor as yourself – and so he asks Jesus, “Who is my neighbor? ”Jesus responded with the parable of the Good Samaritan,
where a man, presumably Jewish, was attacked, robbed and left for dead on the side of the road. A priest and a Levite, both
considered honorable to the Jewish audience, passed by the man. Then a Samaritan, a person belonging to a culture that the
Jewish people of the time would have despised, took pity on the man. The Samaritan bandaged his wounds, took him to an
inn, cared for him, and left money with the innkeeper to continue the care.
When Jesus asked which of these three – the priest, the Levite, or the Samaritan – acted as a neighbor to the robbed man, the
lawyer answered “The one who showed him mercy.”
As Jesus often does, He turns the question of “who is my neighbor?” on its head and instead answers “who might be a
neighbor to me?”
We believe that everyone has something to contribute, and it may be the person we least expect that will help us in our time
of need.
God has brought many migrants from different parts of the world to our doorsteps. Let’s show mercy as the scripture teaches
us in Matthew 5:7 – “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy” and in Matthew 9:13- “I desire mercy, not

Indonesians officially number around 1 million in Malaysia. The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the NGO Migrant
Care both estimate there are more like 2.5 to 3 million people living here. Undocumented women are often employed as
domestic workers — making them vulnerable to exploitation and abuse — while many men work in construction. The
Malaysian government's decision to impose coronavirus measures, called the Movement Control Order (MCO), prevented
37-year-old Yes’a, who goes by only one name, to get her first salary. The migrant worker from the Madura island in East
Java province has just started working on March 1 as a janitor at a fitness center in Kuala Lumpur when the MCO came into
effect on March 18. The situation forced the fitness center she works at to close immediately. Unfortunately, the woman
has yet to received her salary. The woman said she felt lost as she lives alone in Malaysia, without any relatives and friends.
"I don't know, sir. I am confused about what to do," she said when asked about what she would do until the restrictions are
over. Yes'a is a widow with four children who left for Malaysia in February to support her family. She was supposed to be
paid RM700 ($160).

The embassy said there are some 300,000 legal Nepalese workers in Malaysia right now – mainly in the
manufacturing and the security services sector. Many Nepalese workers in Malaysia have been suffering
different problems including human rights. The plight of Nepalese workers abroad is not new and many
recruiters and employers in Malaysia continue to get away with exploitation because the workers have

empty-handed.

The study was conducted between May 1 and 22 by Mixed Migration Centre Asia (MMC Asia) through interviewing
Bangladeshi workers and Rohingyas residing in Malaysia to better understand their experiences and protection needs under

In the recent lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19, the Malaysian government has released 1,168 Indian detainees from

• Six undocumented migrants from Myanmar have been reported to have committed suicide over the past month in
Malaysia. Due to the lockdowns, the migrants had all faced increased financial hardships. Many had lost their jobs or
were unable to find jobs and faced distressed over being unable to return to Myanmar.
• Undocumented workers in Malaysia are more likely to lose their jobs under the COVID-19 crises and avoid venturing
outside for food or healthcare due to the fear of arrest under the crackdown on illegal foreign workers. According a

Malaysia is on a mission to welcome more tourists from the Arab world, establishing itself as a cosmopolitan,
halal paradise.
In 2018, nearly 33,000 Arab tourists visited Malaysia, up from 27,000 the previous year. The number of Arab
tourists is expected to rise further as Malaysia continues to position itself as a Muslim-friendly, halal haven.

The number of Vietnamese work permit holders increased slightly to 80,000-90,000 by 2011, and their presence later
expanded to other sectors including construction, housekeeping, agriculture and service sectors. However, these permits
also had been used by sexual traffickers to lure Vietnamese women into Malaysian brothels; one raid in January 2014
rescued a total of 108 victims. Thousands of Vietnamese women who migrate to Malaysia full of hope for a brighter future
and better wages find themselves instead victims of abuse, exploitation and prostitution. According to some social workers
in Malaysia, trafficking in Vietnamese women has become another form of slavery. One young victim tells her tragic story. "I
