The movie starts with a good background music related to the Philippines during ancient

time, from the filter that they used it symbolizes that there chapter really talks about the
HISTORY of THE PHILIPPINES. It is not boring to watch because there are a lot of
information as the narrator speaks about the country also there are a lot of transitions with the
different clips inserted in the video. This movie focuses on how Filipino live before and how
they adapt from almost 400 years of the colonization of the Spain, although the system of
schools extend to tiniest and small remote villages the number of Filipinos who can read and
write is high by comparison with other Asian nations.

It is very amazing that Philippines consist of some 7,100+ islands and is located in the
western Pacific Ocean. It divided into three main groups: Mindanao in the south, Visayas is in
the centre of archipelago and Luzon in the north that all rich in nature. People live politically free
and had independence under the sun/ 7 out of 10 Filipinos live in small villages called Barrios,
farming at their own land which may vary from five to eight acres in size. Many live in bamboo
houses which is called now a BAHAY KUBO. Farm animals are the usual livestock during those
times. They also have well that time, a single well that had been used by all those people live in
the farm. We also still have it now, but seeing it in the movie makes me want to take care of all
the well in the province. They don’t have machines for harvesting only ancient method of
beating or trampling, it looks tiring especially under the sun but it is still amazing like you would
feel that they should be awarded with a lot or maximum of salary because it is one of the hardest
job or work Filipinos would do. Our famous coconut palm trees were also mentioned that they
get their soaps and margarines from the tree and they don’t waste any parts of those trees even
the dried ones are used. It also showed how Filipinos are fond of music, clapping their hands
while a couple of fellow Filipinos are dancing the Folk dance called Tinikling and this good trait
still preserve even now. Our country has the best values in the world. This shows how simple
Filipinos are and with this simple lifestyle, they always smile a lot and very satisfied as long as
their family is complete, happy and safe.

First of all the video is boring for me. There are no background music and there are no
clips it is just like a slide show that has a narrator in it, the movement of photos and transitions
are very

too slow. This is the movie that I had a

hard time to make an analysis.

Southeast Asia asked why Philippines never included on the map while
neighboring regions like Malaysia and Indonesia became European Colonies. However when the
Europeans took possession of these regions they were not unified in the way we imagined today.
In all cases they were smaller settlements that became larger as the native dynasty became
weaker such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia or the tributary nation became weaker. Late
1800’s the Philippines Islands were used more commercially by the Spanish on their routes from
Mexico. We know the Philippines is a large Roman Cathoilic nation in Asia it’s a legacy of the
Spanish who forcefully converted most of the population to Christianity during their control of
the region. In short what existed before the Spanish crusade once again only view records
remain. Spanish Colonization was big destruction to all the Filipinos. While Chinese marry
Filipinos, that’s why many Filipinos in the north look Chinese. And British wanted to defeat
Spanish so they had given as the chances of Freedom even though were part of the Spanish.
Because many crusades, colonization and war happened in the Philippines, Filipinos had
different traditions and culture heritage from it.
This
video is very different from all the videos because it has a host that
talks about the T-shirt they are selling it is like a Informative Advertisement. The
video is not that boring but interesting because the host talks very energetically like he
knows a lot of things happened before about trading and the Silk Road, a network of trade routes
where goods such as ivory, silver, iron, wine, and yes, silk were exchanged across the ancient
world, from China to the West. Along with all these consumer goods, things like disease and
ideas made the trip as well. John ties the Silk Road to modern life, and the ways that we get our
stuff today. The theme really collide with the way he communicate with the viewers,

The video talks about SILK ROAD, It was an overland route where merchants carried
goods for trade. But it was really two routes: One that connected the Eastern Mediterranean to
Central Asia and one that went from Central Asia to China. Further complicating things, the Silk
Road involved sea routes: Many goods reached Rome via the Mediterranean, and goods from
Central Asia found their way across the Pacific to Japan and even Java. That’s why Silk Road is
not a road but a network trade route. This video shows that the goods traveled more than the
people who traded them: Very few traders do not travel the Silk Road instead, they’d move back
and forth between towns, selling to traders who’d take the goods further toward their destination,
with everybody marking up prices along the way. Well silk, for starters. For millennia, silk was
only produced in China. Chinese shared these products silk, jade, silver, and iron. India exported
fine cotton textiles; the ivory and Arabia exported incense and spices and tortoise shells. The Silk
Road affect the rest of us with a lot of reasons, the Silk Road didn’t just trade luxury goods. In
fact, arguably the most important thing traded along the Silk Road: ideas. First, a wider
economic impact. Relatively few people could afford silk, but a lot of people devoted their lives
to making that silk. Second, the Silk Road didn’t just trade luxury goods. But through contacts
with other cultures and traditions, Buddhism grew and flourished and became one of the great
religious traditions of the world. The idea of Nirvana also transformed from a release from that
cycle of suffering and desire to something much more heavenly. And lastly the Silk Road
changed all our lives, worldwide interconnectedness of populations led to the spread of disease.
This is my
favorite movie. Maybe because it is very interesting to watch because of
the theme they had selected. A video that is full of adventure, in other words First
Circumnavigation of the Earth by Ferdinand Magellan. From the different characters and
pictures that they showed with the different intonations of the narrator , from the start to the very
end the movie is not really boring and focus on what it wants to tell the viewers. They did not
add unnecessary clips but instead it is like a summary, a very informative summary.

A 38 year old Portuguese, Ferdinand Magellan was a brialliant navigator who’s spent
sailing the Indian Ocean, But he’s fallen out the King of Portugal and offered a bold plan to his
rival King Charles I of Spain and helped him with many crews and five ships. Magellan believed
it was possible to sail around the New World and reach the Spice Islands from the East. While
searching for the passage west, Santiago was wrecked though the crews were saved. Another
ship, San Antonio, deserted and sailed home. He did discover the Pacific Ocean and named it as
Mara Pacifico before. They had reached the Guam but one of their boats was stolen, so a fight
broke out and Magellan left the islands earning nothing. A week later, Magellan and his men
became the first Europeans to reach the Philippines, where they were able to feast on bananas
and coconuts. With his translator, they sailed on until they reached Cebu. Where, they made an
alliance to a local ruler who swore to be one of the Spain. A chief from Mactan ask Magellan
help to defeat his rival Datu Lapu-Lapu, and he agreed. They crossed the Mactan to kill Lapu
Lapu but ended up losing because they were outnumbered. As they retreat Magellan was cut
down as they tried to reach the boats. Crews left with two ships, they burned the Concepcion
and continued to search for the Spice Islands. They had reached the Spice Islands but Trinidad
sprang a leak and had to stay behind. Only the Victoria land at Seville, Spain with only few men
left. Just 18 of the Original crew over 270 had made it home. But this first circumnavigation’s
achievement was very amazing. The planet was sphere and vast size. It was incredible that no
man can do that other than Magellan. But after 58 years Francis Drake made his own remarkable
voyage around the Earth.
This movie have a lot of photos to show for all the information they added on
the movie. With the theme and topic the video is not boring to watch along with is
perfectly mixed background music and transitions. It shows that the Filipinos during
Spanish Colonization were abused that they had to make revolts for the abusive Spaniards.
Although we are not united that time the courage and bravery of some Filipinos to make reforms,
promote economic development of the islands and have our own independent was observed.

Spanish rule for the first 100 years was exercised in most areas through a type of tax
farming imported from the Americas and known as the encomienda. The “Encomienda” system
was implemented. It is a system from which the king has the right to transfer the authority of a
particular land to any Spanish individual or institution. Those individual who posses the right of
“encomienda” was called as “Encomiendero”. Unfortunately, the “encomienda” system was
misused by some “encomienderos”. A lot of them use the “encomienda” for their own interest.
They tend to abuse their power, collecting taxes more than the real tax value that made people
revolts against them. The governor-general, himself appointed by the king, began to appoint his
own civil and military governors to rule directly. He dominated the Audiencia, or high court, was
captain-general of the armed forces, and enjoyed the privilege of engaging in commerce for
private profit. executive and the judicial. There was no legislative branch on that time since the
laws of the islands were coming from Spain. The only laws created in the Philippines are those
who were ordered by the Governor General. The restoration of Spanish rule brought reforms
aimed at promoting the economic development of the islands and making them independent of
subsidies from New Spain. The galleon trade ceased in 1815, and from that date onward the
Royal Company of the Philippines, which had been chartered in 1785, promoted direct and tariff-
free trade between the islands and Spain. Cash crops were cultivated for trade with Europe and
Latin America, but profits diminished after Spain’s Latin American colonies became
independent in the 1810s and 1820s.
The movie is slightly boring but very informative and knowing that there were
a lot of Filipinos that have been brave to go against those Spaniards that time makes
me feel proud. Although, not all of the revolts succeed because most of them vanished.
Basically the movie showed me that Filipinos wanted a country for themselves, a country run by
Filipinos and not foreigners due to the reasons stated by others.  The Filipinos love freedom.
They do not like cruel foreigners telling them what to do or oppressing them. Now, the Spaniards
did not really take good care of the Filipinos under Spanish rule. So, the Filipinos often rebelled
against the Spanish government.

During the Spanish Colonial Period in the Philippine there were several revolts against
Spanish Government often with the goal of reestablishing the rights and powers had traditionally
belong to people. Most of the revolts failed because of the friars always involved in Roman
Catholicism the major of the local population to the side with the well-armed colonial
government and to fight the Spanish. The Spanish soldiers put down the revolts. The Lakan
Dula revolt also known as the Manila revolt or the Solomon revolt happen in 1574 it was a
rebellion against the Spanish rule led by Raja Lakan Dulan and Raja Sulayman in the Manila.
The Sumuroy revolt also known as the Sumuroy Rebellion was an uprising against the Spaniard
on june 1 1649 The rebellion was caused by the local Spanish Officials implementation of Polo
II Servicio system in summer. There were lot of revolts or rebellion against Spain because of the
people desired to regain their lost of freedom and happiness. They hated the given tribute and tax
with forcing them to give so much than what they ad agreed with the government. Filipinos were
forced to do labor without anything in return abusesd by the Friars and other Spaniards. Filipinos
not being treated equally as citizens of Spain were observed.
The
narrator on the movie keeps on speaking in other language. It shows in the
theme that they really did a research because how will they know if those fiestas,
dresses and etc are from the Spaniards. Other than the narrator , there are also subtitles
that shows what is in the picture that they are showing and what does the picture means.

To administer the Philippines, the Spaniards extended their royal government to the
Filipinos. The Spanish missionaries had a lot of influences on us like Spanish names, education,
churches, new crops, new industries, hospitals or asylums, new technology, arts and literature,
religion, manner of dressing and many more. Bible as change into latin Alphabet. We have
these surnames that we adapt from them. The video tells that we inherited lots of their tradition
and can still be observed until now , Spanish words like "mesa" (table), "adobo" (marinated
cooked food), and others are commonly used today in the daily practical transactions of the
Filipinos with each other. Even thought we are already apart from them and has our own
freedom the presence of their colonialism is very very observable. The influences from Spain
have become permanently embedded in Filipino culture. The Filipino people themselves have
internalized them. They cannot be undone anymore. For good or bad, they had put the Filipinos
into the world of Spanish culture, Nevertheless, it must be said that the Filipinos did not receive
the cultural influences from Spain sitting down or not doing anything but had no choice but to
go. They had responded in a way that they can balance the new and the old.
