ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES

1. Give a situation where an artist could make use of nature in producing an artwork.
(5points)
Making art from nature involves utilizing various elements of nature (such as leaves, sticks,
stones, bones, water, wood, etc.) in a creative way to make a new art object. The resulting
artwork makes a statement about both nature and humanity's relationship to nature. This was
the way we originally made art. Using natural materials to create art harkens back to the
Stone Age, when Prehistoric people would use organic and mineral based pigments, such as
metal oxides and iron, to make marks on cave walls. The mediums that artists use
to inspire and create their pieces are from nature. Wood, charcoal, graphite, clay, mixed
pigments, water. Artists literally use nature to create their works. The way the cave dwellers
created paint to document and draw on their walls is in essence the same exact process that
we use today. Their works of art have been used to create pleasing environments. Arts and
crafts have different types, namely: textile wood, metal, paper or canvass, and plant crafts.

2. Identify at least three (3) works of art in your community/locality that are still very much
admired and treasured today. Identify the function/s of the artwork and the message conveyed by
the artist. Explain your answer.(15points)
(Note: You can make your own layout in presenting your output.)

Function/s of the Arts and Explanation

- Wood carving is one of the livelihood of our community. Wood carving is a form of
woodworking by means of a cutting tool in one hand or a chisel by two hands or with one
hand on a chisel and one hand on a mallet, resulting in a wooden figure or figurine, or in
the sculptural ornamentation of a wooden object. The making of sculpture in wood has
been extremely widely practised, but survives much less well than the other main
materials such as stone and bronze, as it is vulnerable to decay, insect damage, and fire. It
therefore forms an important hidden element in the art history of many cultures.
Message of the Artist
- Though it may look intimidating when you first begin researching it, wood carving is not
that overly difficult if you are willing to learn the different tools and techniques. Any new
hobby takes patience, practice and persistence. Wood carving is no different.

Function/s of the Arts and Explanation
- A cabinet is a box-shaped piece of furniture with doors and/or drawers for storing
miscellaneous items. Some cabinets stand alone while others are built in to a wall or are
attached to it like a medicine cabinet. Cabinets are typically made of wood (solid or
with veneers or artificial surfaces), coated steel (common for medicine cabinets), or
synthetic materials. Commercial grade cabinets, which differ in the materials used, are
called casework, casegoods, or case furniture. Cabinets usually have one or more doors
on the front, which are mounted with door hardware, and occasionally a lock. Cabinets
may have one or more doors, drawers, and/or shelves. Short cabinets often have a
finished surface on top that can be used for display, or as a working surface, such as
the countertops found in kitchens. A cabinet intended to be used in a bedroom and with
several drawers typically placed one above another in one or more columns intended for
clothing and small articles is called a chest of drawers. A small bedside cabinet is more
frequently called a nightstand or night table. A tall cabinet intended for clothing storage
including hanging of clothes is called a wardrobe or an armoire, or (in some countries)
a closet if built-in.

ARTWORK

TYPES OF ARTS OR CRAFTS – Wood crafts

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE OF ART – Proportion and Rhythm
PERSONAL IMPRESSION – My impression of this artwork is how caring of a nursing. It is
important to me as a student nurse because at the very core of nursing practice is the act
of caring. Caring and nursing are so intertwined that nursing would not be nursing without the
act of caring. Caring is “a feeling and exhibiting concern and empathy for others; showing or
having compassion”.

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE OF ART – Balance, Contrast, Harmony, Emphasis, and
Proportion.
PERSONAL IMPRESSION – It is important to me because my mom gave me this cross
pendant and it is made of real gold. I always wear it, it is simple but sentimental for me. A cross
necklace is any necklace featuring a Christian cross or crucifix. Crosses as an indication of my
commitment to the Christian faith.
