Increased flight activity and needs, as well as passenger capacity at the Kuabang
Kao airport, allow for larger boeing aircraft to enter later, so development
planning is needed at this airport. In addition, this development plan is carried
out and taken into account given this area has great potential in the future
development and this airport will be used as an alternative to Sultan Babullah
Ternate Airport which is often closed due to natural events in the form of
eruptions on Mount Gamalama Ternate. To overcome the existing problems, the
main objective of this research is to plan a runway. Runway planning is done
manually using the FAA method and calculations using the application for the
calculation of runway pavement using the FAARFIELD Software. Manual
calculation using the provisions and guidelines of ICAO using the B 737-800 NG
plan aircraft. Based on the type of plan aircraft obtained values of 2.603 m
runway length and 45 m width. RESA with a length of 240 m and width of 90 m,
clearways with a length of 650,75 m and width of 45 m, and a stopways width
value of 45 m. In addition, the value obtained from the runway pavement
thickness is obtained from the manual method with a total thickness of 96.52 cm
consisting of 10,16 cm surface course, 25,4 cm base course, and 60,96 cm
subbase course. While the total thickness of the pavement using FAARFIELD
software is 64,72 cm with 12,70 cm surface course, 17,78 cm base course, 34,24
cm subbase course.
