Applicants kept on coming; hundreds of people queued for jobs

(Teluk Intan, 24th) More than a hundred young men and women were seen queueing for jobs
outside the Teluk Intan SOCSO office early this morning. The long queues of job seekers lined
up from the front of the office to the back, which surprised those who saw it.

The interview was arranged by SOCSO for a company in Teluk Intan to help more people to be
hired. The executives of this company interviewed more than 100 people since the early
morning. The interview was still ongoing until evening as the applicants kept on coming.

This phenomenon also reflects economic downturn. The unemployed and fresh graduates
urgently need a job to support their personal and family livelihoods.

The news reporter learned from the staff that in the previous years, the company also held
similar interview arrangements to recruit employees, but they did not expect so many people
would turn up to apply for jobs this year. Even the hiring personnel was surprised.

Among the job seekers, many are fresh graduates with zero work experience. They are holding
diplomas and certificates and waited for more than 2 hours just to get a job.

The job seeker, Ms Nursadah told reporters that she is a UTM graduate with a degree in
Industrial Physics and hopes to apply for a position of production executive. She said that she
waited in line from 1030 in the morning until 1200 noon. There was still a long line of people
in front of her, and some applicants had already been interviewed and left.

Another female job seeker who wished to remain anonymous said that she was also a fresh
graduate, and only wanted to apply for the position of warehouse assistant.

“I arrived in the queue early in the morning, and I had to wait for the company to notify me
after the interview. I wonder if I will be hired.”

When contacted by reporters, the manager of this company said that they do not wish to make
any comments.
