ASSESSMENT QUESTIONS

Q 2.12:

a)Since currents flowing through the resistor and voltage resources are
different ,we need to assume the current flow in one side at first. So,we assume
the current flows from the +terminal of voltage source to –negative terminal.

We know that i=V/R then,i=40/2.5k=16mA .Since current direction is

opposite,the final result is -16mA(negative)

b)Power supplied by the voltage source,P=V*I

therefore,P=40*(-16*10-3)=-6.4J

c)If the reverse the polarity of the voltage source ,then current i=16mA(positive)

and power P=6.4J

Q 2.19:

a)According to current division rule,i1=iT*R2/(R1+R2) Here R1=100ohms and R2

=400ohms. Therefore,i1=1.2A and i2=0.3A.

b)Since we know the current and the total resistance we can easily find the
voltage V0. V0=I*RT=1.5*80=120V.

c) Total power developed ,P=V*I=120*1.5=180J

Total power dissipated,P=(1.2)2*100+(0.3)2*400=180J

Hence it is verified that power developed is equal to power dissipated.

Q 2.20:

a) i1=20mA
b) v1=7.5V
c) vg=2.5V
d) Power developed by 2
voltagesources=(2.5)*50/1000+(3.5)*20/1000=0.195J
