Introduction:

Definition of marriage

I. Laws interpretation of homosexual (same-sex) marriage

1. States reasons to issue a marriage license

a. Definition of marriage is one man and one woman engaging in a monogamous


relationship

b. directly related and/or blood ties
c. physical and psychological health problems

3. Definition of monogamy
a. Union between two people
b. Does not include heterosexual couples
c. c. Monogamy is a contractual agreement

II. Discrimination towards gay people

1. Turning down a couples' right to live their lifestyle is discriminatory

a. The Defense of Marriage Act


b. The "full faith and credit" clause of the US constitution

2. Misconception and prejudice toward homosexuals


a. The mentality that it is acceptable to treat homosexuals differently because they are
different
b. The acceptance of interracial marriage
i. Loving vs. Virginia decision, the Supreme Court made it illegal for "any white
person to intermarry with a colored person"
ii. Change due to the beginning acceptance of interracial marriage

III. Fear of accepting same-sex marriage would disrupt our society

1. Society has already been disrupted due to violence, divorce rate, and teenage problems

IV. Affect on children

1. Fear that same-sex couples cannot raise a child properly

a. Fear that the child would grow up gay

2. The court takes away the custody of a child from a gay couple because they are not
good examples
a. Remarried children
b. dysfunctional family and exposure of excessive drinking and drug abuse by parents
c. The court takes their time in getting children out of those homes, but immediately
takes away a child from a home whose parents are gay

3. Deception, distrust, and dishonestly from parents are what affects a child's growth

Conclusion:

Same-sex marriage is not wrong. They should have their freedom to choose the lives they want
to live. Gay parents do not have a big of an impact on children. It all depends on the act of the
parent. So my definition of marriage is the union of two people who are in love and agrees to
bind together legally.
