Personal Statement

Complete Name: CARLA MARISSE A. ESCARPE

Program Applied: BACHELOR OF NURSING

I chose the Nursing program because I want to do something exciting and meaningful in
my life that makes a positive impact in other people's lives. After completing my studies, I will
be able to use my knowledge and abilities to change someone's life no matter how difficult the
task. Stepping into someone’s life at the low moments and making a difference in their life is an
incredible privilege. One thing I’m passionate about is trying out new things. I believe that
learning new skills has its own set of benefits that contribute to success and help me develop
into a better version of myself. Discovering new things lights a fire inside me that fuels my
curiosity and makes me realize that I’m capable of more than I thought.

The values that I hold most dearly are to always put in my best effort and to have God in
my heart. It doesn’t matter what goal you are trying to achieve, if you always give your best and
have faith in God, you will get much better results than if you don’t. Since the pandemic
started, it really challenged me to the point that I don't care about my studies anymore. I
prioritized the things I wanted to do instead of my school related works. However, seeing my
parents work hard to provide us with our needs despite this pandemic, it hit me that I should
give importance to my studies, to my future. As the well-known saying goes, “no pain, no gain.”
Sometimes, the most difficult part is just getting started. Eventually, the process will be smooth,
and you will become accustomed to it in its entirety.  Even if you frequently fail at most tasks, it
doesn't matter as long as you do everything with all your might and trust God with all your
heart, you will start to succeed. Failure may not result in you achieving some of your desired
outcomes, but it does result in you becoming a wiser, tougher, and better person.
What I enjoy about school is having a great professor who always encourages students
to do their best while also attempting to make learning interesting and creative. Another thing I
enjoy is meeting people with distinct personalities. I think this helps me to improve my
propensity to understand one’s views, ideas, and notions. Moreover, it also helps me to
eliminate my preconceived negative stereotypes and personal biases about different groups.
What I least enjoy about school is having professors with no passion for teaching. I dislike it
when these professors simply give us a task to accomplish without even discussing the lesson or
giving us the gist of the topic.

In order for me to achieve my goals, I must stay motivated, have faith, work hard, set
short-term goals, reward myself for my achievements, surround myself with positivity, and
learn from my mistakes. Moreover, the support from my family will also be a big help in
achieving my dreams. On the other hand, lack of consistency is one thing that will not help to
reach my dreams. If something does not work for me, I lose interest in it without giving it a
second chance. Yet, I’m taking small steps in changing that kind of personality, and hopefully,
I’ll be successful in changing it.
