Prompt:

“You are a child of Loki, and today is the family reunion. Your fiancé, who insisted on
coming, does not know this. You now have to explain why there's a giant snake and giant
wolf at the door”

As the clock starter nearing 7pm, I started pacing faster and faster across the dining room. I knew
my fiancé was someone who never judges people and keeps an open mind, but today’s dinner
will not be like her Sunday office brunch. Today she will finally meet my Dad, Loki – the god of
mischief and my uncle Thor – the god of thunder. I asked dad to be on his best behavior, but I do
need to break the news to my fiancé about tonight’s guests. *Ding Dong*. The bell rang, which
was followed by an ear piercing shriek from Mary. SNAKE! WOLF! she screamed, tears rolling
down her cheeks in fright, as she darted across the lobby to her room. ‘Hi, sorry we are late’ the
snake hissed, and the wolf nodded.
Dad? Uncle Thor? Confused as ever while meeting these Asgardains’ I never expected them to
appear like this. ‘We got cursed by some elves on our way, but since we promised to show up for
dinner, here we are’ smiled my dad who was now morphed into a giant snake. After sitting them
down, I had to go find Mary and explain why we have snakes and wolves as guests instead of
normal people. The talk did not go well as Mary refused to meet them. She was too sacred.
Frustrated, I thought to myself, “I need to turn them back to normal – or as close to normal as
these people can be”. Turns out my Dad had pranked some elves who in turn put a curse on
them. And now we have to find them and apologize.
As we made our way to the elves’ cottages in the forest behind our house, we saw fire. The little
elves were running around as their store houses somehow caught fire. We were shocked and
immediately jumped in to help. Uncle Thor being the ruler of thunder let a mighty wolf’s cry and
summoned a storm! It rained while dad stuck out his long snake tail to pull out all the trapped
elves from the hut. The elves thanked us over and over but when asked to lift the curse from dad
and uncle Thor they apologized. “The curse can only be lifted by kindness and love. Sad and
stuck with snakes, wolves and elves I felt that both my fiancé will leave me and dinner has been
totally ruined. We slowly started making it back to our house when we heard a cracking noise in
the woods.
Mary jumped in my arms and started crying, she held a baby elf in her palms and said that she
was worried about us. Turns out, during the commotion in the woods, a tiny elf made way to my
house to ask my fiancé for help. Mary’s love and compassion for elves and all creatures was so
pure, the snake and the wolf slowly started shifting back to their human forms and there stood
my dad, the tall black-haired Loki and my uncle with a face full of beard -Thor.

We ended up having more guests than planned, as the elves joined Mary as she prepared a
delicious dinner for everyone. A family reunion befitting the Asgardian’s, elves and humans
indeed. There were smiles all around the table and it goes to show regardless where you are from
- love and compassion can unite anyone.
