Toyota encounter with one of their worst nightmares when their automobiles weren’t safety

anymore. They focus so much in providing a better car for a lower price, that they totally oversaw that
there are some parts in production that you shouldn’t cut cost on, and one of them is safety. Toyota
definitely is more focus on the on the marketing and the consumer confidence than making the car
safer. Toyota is adding a break override system that are equipped with enhance black boxes that would
record a pre- and post-collision data. The president of Toyota Motor Sales USA, Mr. James Lentz, said “I
can’t say 100 percent that it necessarily makes the cars safer”. He also emphasized frequently that the
final authority for deciding actions on defects and others safety resided in Toyota Japan. Henry
Waxman, a house energy committee chairman, said “Toyota is not giving us assurances on safety, seems
to me they are working around attitudes by making people feel good about Toyota, but I want feel good
about their safety”. Also another chairman, Mr. Stupak, also said “there is no evidence that Toyota has
conducted extensive or rigorous testing of its vehicles for potential electronic defects…” He had the
record of eleven thousand hours worked by engineers for testing, but there’s no record from those tests
or for any reason they aren’t providing it. Waxman also mentioned “ there needs to be a fundamental
reform at N.H.T.S.A”(Nationa Higway Traffic Safety Adm.). But they defend their selves arguing that the
reports that Toyota has given to them, has no record of complains or defects in testing.

Toyota’s management was totally mishandled. First they started arguing that the problem was
being created by the floor mat and it had nothing to do with the electronics. After more accidents came
they figure out that was a defect with the pedal, so they recall a few cars. Then they find out that it has
something to do with the electronic system and that they are implementing a new break override that
will store the data, but they cannot assure it will fully solve the safety problem. So they never know
what is really going on with their cars, until is too late. They totally mishandled that way they should
had address these accidents. Mrs. Smith, a victim of the problem, said her story when her Lexus sedan
sped out of control at 100 miles an hour. She said the company technician told her he was no able to
replicate the same even. “Of course we were insulted, and furious, over being called liars” Mrs. Smith
said. So if Toyota is having problems in the design of their cars, this is not a way to treat the victims of
their mistakes.
