Geraldo Jotz, the head of the Morphological Sciences Department at Universidade

Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, worked with Aline Gomes who works for the Medicine

Department at the Universidade Federal do Maranhão on the importance of wearing a

mask. Their article provides information to help educate the public on why they need to

wear a mask in public spaces in order to self- protect and protect others from COVID- 19.

Images of different types of masks and a list of ways healthcare workers can stay safe

were provided. This includes what mask to wear, how to put it on, and other sanitary tips.

The authors concluded that there is still research needed on the different materials masks

are made out of and how much protection they provide, but it is recommended to wear a

mask of any material over not wearing a mask at all. They also emphasize social

distancing and correct hand hygiene: washing hands with soap and water or with 70%

alcohol sanitizer.
