Philosophy of Classroom Management

I strongly agree that students learn different. No two
students learn the same in anyway and as a teacher it is my job to
teach in a way that ALL of my students will/ can understand it
with ease. This could mean teaching a lesson multiple times
throughout the day to ensure that I am accommodation it to all of
my students needs and ways of learning.

As a teacher I know that it is my job to be in charge of the

classroom. I need to make sure that it runs smoothy and is a safe
and welcoming place for all of my students to come into each and
every day. I want my classroom to be an exciting and welcoming
place for my students. A place where they know they are smart,
loved and cared for. This is all part of my job and responsibility as
a teacher.

I am going to lead my students in the right direction, teach

them wrong from right and allow them to make mistakes because
that is how we learn and I
want them to understand the
NOBODY is perfect. I want
my students to respect
others and themselves.

Behavior Expectations

The biggest thing in my

classroom that I want to
teach my students is RESPECT. I want them to respect others in
the room and learn to respect themselves. I am a strong believer
that if you work with kids at a young age to respect themselves
and others around them that as they grow up, those morals will
stay with them.

My behavior expectations will change

depending on the age group I am working with. The older kids will
be held to a high expectation because they should have already
learned the rules of how to behave whereas a kindergartener is
new to the school setting and needs to be taught these things. I
will run each classroom the same way. I will teach my students to
respect others no matter their age and that is going to be the main
rule in my classroom. I think that respect and behavior go hand in
hand in a lot of aspects.

Classroom Motto
Classroom arrangements

My class size and class behavior is going to depend a

lot on my classroom arrangements. I want to have my desks
in small groups of 2 or 3 so that partner work can easily be
done but I will make it super clear to the students that I have
the right to change any student’s seat when they are
misbehaving and becoming a distraction.

I will also plan my classroom around the number of

children I have. Obviously if I have more students my free
space is limited but I do want to have comfortable seating
places and areas all over my room so that students (when
given permission) can go and relax while working on school
work. This goes along with wanting a welcoming classroom.

When setting up my room I will keep in mind the

learners that need more assistance and accommodation.
Those will be closer to my desk and the front of the room for
easy access to one on one help.
Classroom Rules
Hierarchy of Consequences

This is called a clip up chart. Each day students will

start at green and the goal is to move up on the chart each
day. But if someone does not follow the rules then they will
be moved down the chart which means consequences. This
is going to be made for the entire class and everyone is
going to know what to do it stay up on the chart and what
NOT to do so that they do not go down the chart.
Motivational strategies

Rewards. I think that students work best when they are

working for something. Whether it be something small like a
pencil or longer recess or even a fun classroom party. This is
a great way to work on behavior as well because they will
have something to work/ look forward to. I also think that
students work well motivating each other. Meaning if one
child finished their work and gets to do an activity it is going
to motivate the other students to finish their work so that they
can do that extra activity as well.

Using praise and stickers/ moving up on the behavioral

clip up chart is going to be another motivational strategy as
well. Behavioral motivation is huge with most students.
When one gets praised or rewarded it helps the other
students act better in hopes that they can get rewarded too. I
think that using a behavioral chart is a great visual for older
and younger students to use. This shows them where they
are in the class and how close they are to a reward.
I think the best thing about this chart is that everyday
everyone starts at the same spot. Nothing is carried over day
to day, it is a clean slate. I think that doing it that way is
necessary because it allows the kids to start over and be
refreshed rather than coming in the next morning already
upset because they are on yellow and not blue (or what ever
system is being used.)

Management procedures and routines

The class schedule will be hung up in the classroom for
all to see. It will change daily as the student’s schedule
changes. Posters will be hung around the room to help
students with transitioning. I think that it is very important for
students to be on a routine and understand what is coming
up next. This also stops the million questions throughout the
day about what is coming up next.
I also feel that it is important to have the students
understand that things happen and plans are changed so as
much as I want them to get used to following directions and
routines that they need to be able to adapt the best they can
to the changing of the routines.

Instructional Planning
Yes, all teachers should anticipate behaviors during all
activities. Nothing is ever going to go as perfectly planned
but as a teacher you need to be able to roll with the punches
and go with the flow and make up some planning on the go if
you need to. I will try and stick to my lesson plans for the day
the best I can but as we know school and students are very
unpredictable. When it comes to students behaviors I
understand that hiccups are going to happen but I am going
to make sure to keep my other students focused on what
they need to be doing while taking care of a behavior as
well. I do not want others behaviors to have a negative affect
on the rest of the class’s learning.
