Carbocyclic and Heterocyclic Ketones Rule C-314

314.1 (Alternative to Rules C-315.1 and C-316.1) - Classical procedure: When in a cyclic
compound a group >CH2 is replaced by >CO, but not otherwise, this change is denoted
by attaching the suffix "-one", with elision of terminal "e" (if present), to the name of the
ring system. Suffixes "-dione", "-trione", etc., denote similar replacement of two, three,
etc., >CH2 groups by >CO.

Examples to Rule C-314.1

 Note: The H for indicated hydrogen and its locant may be omitted
when no ambiguity results; for example, 4H-Pyran-4-one may be
named 4-Pyranone, or its contraction 4-Pyrone may be used.
