Second Generation Bioethanol is Province of Laguna
typically produced from lignocellulosic
biomass, but it is also possible to use non-
food crops as feedstock. The researchers
COLLEGE OF
came up to the idea of constructing a
“Lignocellulosic Bioethanol Production from ENGINEERING
Banana Pseudostem” prototype that has
some of the processes needed in producing
bioethanol.
Preparation of raw material requires
several processes before feeding into the
machine. First is drying with 15% of
moisture content, then grinding into 1mm
mesh size, next is chemical pretreatment for
two days, and then washing with distilled
water for two hours. The treated biomass
will be now fed to the machine, specifically
to the SSF unit with mixture of mediums.
The fermentation lasted for 7 days with 12%
of yeast. After SSF, the biomass will be
pressed and then filtered for the last process, CONTACT
which is distillation.
