Singapore is a multiracial and multicultural country with ethnic Chinese
leading the population which consists 76.2%, followed by the Malays which consists 15.0%, and lastly, ethnic Indians 7.4% of the total citizen population. Since independence, the demographics of Singapore have been broadly organized under the CMIO (Chinese-Malay-Indian-Other) system of categorization. Chinese Singaporeans make up the majority of the population while there are also some Euro-asians. The Malays, on the other hand, are recognized as the indigenous people in the Population.
As shown in the following figure, in 2018, the total population of the
Republic of Singapore is 5,638,676. The male population comprise of 2,951,389, while the female population comprise of 2,687,287.

As shown in the figure below, the population of the Republic of Singapore
has been increasing since 1960 to 2018. However, the country is not experiencing any trend on its population growth rate. Since the population is not highly dominated by natives, it is easily influenced by the inflow and outflow of foreigners. In 1960, the population growth rate of the country was 3.66%, however the annual population growth rate went down in 1980, went back up on 1990, slowly went down on 2017 and it rose again in 2018 to 0.47%.

Population can further be subdivided into three groups, namely population
from ages 0-14, population from ages 15-64, and population from ages 65 and above. According from the figure below, there is a general increasing trend and leveling off in year 2010 and onwards for the percentage of population that belongs to ages 15-42 and ages 65 and above. On the other hand, there is a decreasing trend of percentage of population that belongs to ages 0-14. In 1960, 43.23%,54.73% and 2.04% of the total population belong to the 0-14, 15-64, and 65 and above age group, respectively. However, in 2018, 12.28%, 76.26% and 11.46% of the total population belong to the 0-14, 15-64, and 65 and above age group, respectively.
