(2013-2020)

WHAT IS GLOBAL MENTAL HEALTH


PLAN (2013-2020)?

- IT IS AN ACTION PLAN THAT FOCUSES INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION ON A


LONG-NEGLECTED PROBLEM AND IS FIRMLY ROOTED IN THE PRINCIPLES OF
HUMAN RIGHTS. THE ACTION PLAN CALLS FOR CHANGES. IT CALLS FOR A
CHANGE IN THE ATTITUDES THAT PERPETUATE STIGMA AND DISCRIMINATION
THAT HAVE ISOLATED PEOPLE SINCE ANCIENT TIMES, AND IT CALLS FOR AN
EXPANSION OF SERVICES IN ORDER TO PROMOTE GREATER EFFICIENCY IN
THE USE OF RESOURCES.
- THE OVERALL GOAL IS TO PROMOTE MENTAL WELL-BEING, PREVENT MENTAL
DISORDERS, PROVIDE CARE, ENHANCE RECOVERY, PROMOTE HUMAN RIGHTS
AND REDUCE THE MORTALITY, MORBIDITY AND DISABILITY FOR PERSONS
WITH MENTAL DISORDERS.

Four Major Objectives of the


Action Plan to:
STRENGTHEN EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE
FOR MENTAL HEALTH.

PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE, INTEGRATED AND RESPONSIVE MENTAL


HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE SERVICES IN COMMUNITY-BASED
SETTINGS.

IMPLEMENT STRATEGIES FOR PROMOTION AND PREVENTION


IN MENTAL HEALTH.

STRENGTHEN INFORMATION SYSTEMS, EVIDENCE AND


RESEARCH FOR MENTAL HEALTH.

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES?


 
THE OBJECTIVES ARE TO RAISE AWARENESS
ABOUT THE MENTAL
HEALTH CONTINUUM,
REDUCE STIGMA ASSOCIATED WITH MENTAL
ILLNESS, PROMOTE HELP SEEKING
BEHAVIORS AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING
PRACTICES, AND PREVENT SUICIDE THROUGH
INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION AND OUTREACH EVENTS.
PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH
PROBLEMS SOMETIMES EXPERIENCE A CRISIS,
SUCH AS BREAKING DOWN IN TEARS, HAVING
A PANIC ATTACK, FEELING SUICIDAL, OR
EXPERIENCING THEIR OWN OR A DIFFERENT
REALITY.
THERE ARE SOME GENERAL STRATEGIES THAT
YOU CAN USE TO HELP:
LISTEN WITHOUT ASK REASSURE AND
MAKING
THEM WHAT SIGNPOST TO
JUDGEMENTS AND
WOULD PRACTICAL
CONCENTRATE ON
HELP THEM. INFORMATION
THEIR NEEDS IN
OR RESOURCES.
THAT MOMENT.

REINFORCE OR DISMISS THEIR EXPERIENCES,
BUT ACKNOWLEDGE HOW THE SYMPTOMS
ARE MAKING THEM FEEL.
