ABS-CBN SHUTDOWN.

Back in grade school, I had a fight with one of my male classmates

since we are arguing if which is a better TV Station, ABS-CBN or GMA 7, we
were comparing each television shows on the said channels if which is more
entertaining by which more cartoons are being shown that makes our
weekday mornings and afternoon entertaining. We do not have the luxury
of installing a cable channels since my father was only company driver and
roughly makes enough money to buy our daily needs and send me and my
sister to a public school.

As I grow older, my taste for Television shows varied I came across

with other channels that are available, that would suit myself as a teenager,
however, it is a rule in our house that when it’s 6:00 PM its time to watch the
primetime news, so I have no choice but to watch as well, I hated watching
the news because in my teenager mind, it was way too boring, technical and
gore since they always talk about politics, murder, police force and all other
stuff that I do not really care and understand.

When I was in my senior year in high school, we were already

discussing if what course are we going to take up in college, me, having no
idea whether to follow the foot steps of my aunts to enroll myself in local
business school or pave another path. I had this idea if what if I study
journalism and news writing as my college degree, well, since I envy TV
personalities who can speak out their minds and are very lucky to be shown
in television, I had this aspiration to be a news anchor in a local tv station
under the management of ABS-CBN, so I enrolled myself in a university
which offers the course that I wanted to pursue.

However, after finishing the course, I wasn’t able to pursue my dream,

since I had a job offer to work in a government office. 2020 came and the
news about the dwindling state on the renewal of franchise of ABS-CBN is
all over the news and social media platforms, for some certain vendetta that
a high-ranking government official holds towards the TV station, the series
of events concluded in the non-renewal of the franchise of the said channel.

At these trying times, especially that we are in the surge of the Covid19
virus and what we need is to be properly informed on what is the current
state of our country, it breaks my heart both as a Communication graduate
and a citizen since the said channel has been a source of news and
information for many decades. We as citizens, clothe by our constitutional
rights for freedom of expression, lost another battle in our right to be
informed.
