POVERTY: TO KILL IT IF WE DO IT

Most of the countries, including the Philippines, are still experiencing poverty.
Nowadays, in our country, poverty still remains, and is expanding. It is the greatest
visible issue, especially when you are about to open your eyes in every corner of the
places here in the Philippines. One will see huge grumpy faces in both urban and rural
communities just by mere reason of not having sufficient means to maintain a healthy
lifestyle. Though people are trying to efface these looks on their faces, their dark
situations just can’t stretch a smile at all.

Now, what really is poverty?

Poverty is literally the insufficiency in terms of necessities. This is the lack of

sources or capacity to get hold of what a person needs. This has been a gigantic
problem most people have been facing from around the world, and at this time of
pandemic, poverty has become more rampant as most businesses have been shutting
down. Skills may be present, however, because of the crisis the world is now facing,
they are of no advantage.

In today’s situation, poverty has become more uncontrollable. The economy of

most countries has been raised in red flags because investments and enterprises are
also greatly affected in one shot, where macro or micro. For so many years even in the
absence of the pandemic, poverty has taken its toll, making the lives of the many
more miserable. It is but depressing seeing people suffer from this wide-and-long
problem, and as a matter of fact, it is but woeful that a number of factors affect
poverty, and some of them are just beyond one’s power and might.

There are several causes why a lot of people are facing poverty in the
Philippines. One of these is the low economic growth. The other one is the imbalance
of the distribution of incomes. The rich earns higher profit than the poor. It is unequal
distribution of income which causes the rich to become richer, while the poor will
become poorer. Also, the government cannot provide education for all as it cannot
sustain and afford to get it done with just a snap of fingers.

Education may not be everything, but a lack of it causes people to be

bystanders, or at worse, criminals. They are pushed to their limits that they are forced
to move against the law and the public policy.
Yes, the lack of quality education is shouting at the top of its lungs. Since not
all people are in a position to get the best level of education, many of them would find
it hard to compete with graduates from other countries to get a job.

Another factor in experiencing poverty is the lack of open job opportunities. It

dramatically raises the number of the unemployed. Unemployed people would not be
able to earn a living, and as a result, would need to rely on those who are employed
for basic needs, which, when distributed to the mere needs of all family members, one
will see nothing but a crooked picture of an imbalance supply-demand shot.

In addition, with an increasingly growing population, it is difficult to serve all

to have a job. Again, this may lead to unemployment, which will make the people
suffer more as they cannot provide their basic needs. Another explanation for that is
corruption. Rather than improving the country, it ends up in the pockets of some
greedy-as-hell politicians, causing the country's condition to fall into pieces.

As poverty will continue to worsen, the people will suffer and experience
consequences they have no control of. One of these is having health problems. Since
they cannot provide themselves a good shelter, and cannot provide their needs, they
are driven near owning some health problems.

Moreover, poverty increases the crime rate, as poverty causes people from being
desperate for money, and do crimes for easy cash.

Lastly, one of the effects of poverty is child labor, since they no longer go to
school, they are being pushed to work in order to survive. With that, they are more
likely to not succeed, and continue the trail of poverty in the forthcoming generations.

Truly, lots of people suffer from this tragic reality, and to cut the trail, we
should solve the causes such as low economic growth, unequal distribution of wealth,
lack of quality education, lack of employment opportunities, overpopulation and
corruption. It may not be as easy as counting one to three, and singing the ABC, but
only if we implore the kind spirit in ourselves, make use of what we know, and make
do of what we only have, this problem might as well downgrade on its own. Yes, only
if we go hand-in-hand, we can make things possible. Why not? As the proverbial
goes, a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.

Since it is a chain, solving this dilemma will minimize, if not totally eradicate,
hunger, health issues, crimes and child labor. Nothing goes wrong with goodness,
after all. By fostering good acts to benefit one another, the world will turn 360
degrees, and just become a place we all long it to be. We might not be able to do it
overnight, but at the least, we are still envisioning a habitable place where comfort of
living is not compromised.
