Both the reading and the lecture are about smart cars, which are cars that drive

themselves and are

considered to be safer, quicker and cheaper. The author of the reading believes that smart cars will
prevent accidents and save people's lives. The lecturer casts daoubt on the claims made in the article.
She believes that it will cause even more accidents than there are now, people will not take advantage
of the speed and it will cost even more expensive.

First, the author claims that using smart cars will save people's lives as there will be sensors that detect
obstacles in their way and control braking. However, this point is challangedchallenged by the lecturer.
She thinks that people will get into more accidents as the cars will be closely packed together.
Moreover, she believes that as there are many cars involved it is, in fact, more dangerous for the
people.

Secondly, the author mentions that there will not be traffic problems as smart cars will follow each
other closely and at high speeds. The lecturer states that more people will decide to drive cars. She
mentions that the increased number of cars will not let people to get a benefit from the speed of their
smart cars.

Finally, the author believes that driving smart cars will coast cheaper. He thinks in this way because the
smart cars drive in direct routes and brakes, tires or transmissions will last longer than in an ordinary
car. The lecturer, on the other hand, states that it will be very expensive to get to their desired
destinations. In addition, the sensors, repairs will coast more expensive than with the traditional cars.
