UNIVERSITAS LAMBUNG MANGKURAT What do Instructional designers do? ➢ Instructional designers are paramount in the process of learning. ➢They are tasked with redesigning courses, ➢Developing entire courses or curriculums, and ➢ Creating training materials, such as teaching manuals and students guides. An Instructional designer needs to have: 1. Creativity 2. Communication Skills 3. Research Skills 4. People Skills 5. Time Management Skills 6. Flexibility What does Instructional Design mean? Instructional Design is the systemic development of instructional specifications using learning and instructional theory to ensure the quality of instruction. It is the entire process of analysis of learning needs and goals and the development of delivery system to meet those needs Where do instructional designers work? Since instructional designers are experts in both technology and education, it’s important for them to stay up-to-date on changes in both fields. Instructional designers work for schools, districts, universities, and companies that need to train consumers or employees how to use a tool or product. How can I be a good instructional designer? 1. Be a learner-centric. An instructional designer always focuses on the learners 2. Have an eye for details 3. Have a passion for learning 4. Be imaginative, creative, and innovative 5. Process strong analytical skills 6. Possess effective communication skills 7. Have good written skills 8. Have good visualization skills Components of instructional design Basic components of instructional design, include: 1. Analysis 2. Design 3. Development 4. Evaluation The basic principles of instructional design Instructional design is based on three psychological principles of learning: behavioral, cognitive, and constructivist. Behavioral psychology advocates repetition and reinforcement in learning material to create a “behavior” in the learners. The steps of the Instructional design process 1. Step 1: Analyze Requirements 2. Step 2: Identify Learning Objectives 3. Step 3: Develop Design 4. Step 4: Create a Storyboard 5. Step 5: Develop Prototype 6. Step 6: Develop Training 7. Step 7: Deliver Training 8. Step 8: Evaluate Impact 4 instructional design models 1. The ADDIE Model. ADDIE stands for Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate 2. Bloom’s Taxonomy (Revised) 3. Gagne’s nine Events of Instruction 4. Merrill’s Principles of Instruction Why do we use Instructional design models? An instructional design model is a tool, a framework to develop instructional materials. It helps instructional designers provide a structure and meaning to the learning material. These models provide guidelines to ensure training addresses the learning objectives and meets the desired expectations. The 10 top instructional design challenges in e-learning: 1. Designing and developing powerful e-learning courses. 2. Identifying key issues 3. Choosing the right instructional design model 4. Managing the e-learning project 5.
