exciting vibrartion matches the vibration of the system, that is the scenario of resonance. When the
excitation vibration frequency is equal to the natural frequency of the system, It can cause disaster to the
system. To safeguard from these situations, vibration study is very important. Atul A.

Vibration can loosen the parts and increase wear of the parts in a machine.

However vibration can be used as a parameter to monitor the the condition of a machine or system. Find me a tutor
b) We know that natural frequency,

                                                           = 1/2*3.14*(1800000/1200)1/2

                                                           = 6.16 Hz

c) Let us assume the electromagnet and the cable to be the system and the car being hold by the
electromagnet be the external effect, i.e, the initial disturbance. The extension of the cable due to the car
alone will be,

         x0 = (700kg x 9.81 m/s2 ) / 1800000kN/m

            = 3.815 mm

This displacement can be thought of as the initial disturbance that is given to the system,

Now,we know that the response of a SDOF free vibration is

___________________1

The equation is second order DE, the general solution is,

___________________2

____________3

         = ------------------------4

At t= 0, x(t) = x(0) = x0 = A

B= V0 /

Equation 2 can be written as

Therefore, =

comparing, we get

A= Xcos

and B= X sin

Now, A2 + B2 =

X=

= __________________5

_________________6

We have x0 = 3.815mm = 0.00381m

V0 = 0 m/s since the system was at rest at t=0

using equuation 5 and 6,

we can get,

X= 0.00381m

and =0

The equation of the motion for the system will become,

x(t) = = 0.00381Cos 6.16t______________________A

        = 0.0251 Cos(6.16t + )__________________________B

        = 0.144cos (6.16t+ )___________________C

hence the equations A,B and C represents the motion of the system.

d) The maximum tension developed in the cable will be Tmax= Mg - M max

          can be calculated from equation C, will be maximum when the term, cos (6.16t + ) is equal to 1.

Therefore, max = 0.144 m/s2

hence, Tmax = 1200( 9.81- 0.144)

                  = 11599.2 N = 11.599 kN
