MEETING OBJECTIVES
1) To identify the cause and effect of Medical Laboratory Science
stigmas/ negative stereotypes.
2) To eradicate stigmas/negative stereotypes about the role of Medical
Technologists.
3) To inform and educate the public that medical technology has a wide
range of programs that require a set of professional skills and
competency about problem solving, diagnosis and treatment of
diseases.
4) To bring light for everyone about their perception with regard to
necessary information about the Medical Laboratory Science
program; its definition, functions, benefits and importance to the
healthcare system.
5) To use a consensus decision process to determine which solutions
offered are the best.

MAIN PROBLEM:​THE UNDERLYING STIGMAS OF THE COURSE
MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

AGENDA FOR GROUP DISCUSSION


1. Discussion on the different roles and function of medical
technologists in the health care system. ​(Report by Charm
Dalupang)
2. Identification of the causes of the stigma and why professional
medical technologists are stereotyped into the recognized stigmas;
Cause and Effect Approach ​(Report by Isabelle Panganiban)
3. Discussion on the importance of medical technologists/medical
laboratory scientists in the health care system. (Report by Ken
Lagyap)
4. Recognition of the benefits that medical technologist/ medical
laboratory scientists can bring in the healthcare system. ​(Report by
Francis Enriquez)
5. Discussion of various solutions to the underlying effects of the stigma.
(Report by Justine Mojica with the help of other members)

CONSENSUS BUILDING DISCUSSION AND DECISION

● Are there outside factors which affect the overall view of the public to
medical technologists?
● What are the best solutions to be implemented that fits to solve the
problem?
● Do all the members agree with the proposed solutions?
● How will the proponents implement the proposal?
● What are the ways to effectively apply the solution?
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS

- Recognize the top performing Medical Laboratory Scientists in


Research and development, and other possible careers. ​(Report by
Justine Mojica)
- Emphasize the importance of medical technologists to the healthcare
system using social media.The social media and digital world can be
a great medium to post videos of laboratory procedures done by
medical technologists. We can create infographics, posters, and other
informative brochures to be posted. As well as videos involving the
critical laboratories that are needed in most diagnoses. (Report by
Isabelle)
- Educate the masses of people in regards to the important roles of
medical technologists/medical laboratory scientists in the healthcare
system. (​Report by Francis)
- Conduct seminars and even fun activities like games (online or live)
about the introduction of Medical Technologists in the healthcare
profession to clear misinformation especially to people who have
limited knowledge in the profession and to make their perceptions
about it more appropriate. ​(Report by Elaise Abat)
- Enhance and strengthen various organizations with regard to Medical
Laboratory Science. ​(Report by Ken Lagyap)
