Travel Diary

Day 1

I have just arrived in Thamugadi. It was a long journey to get here, but now that I have arrived, I

am excited to explore the town. There are countless attractions and I have a detailed itinerary laid

out so that I know I will be able to hit all of the spots I want to visit. It was late and night was

already approaching when I arrived, so I must get some rest before the fun days ahead.

Day 2

Today I visited the public library which was donated by Julius Quintianus Flavus Rogatianus. It

was spectacular. I learned of the rich culture of Thamugadi. It was founded by the Roman

Emporer Trajan. The full name of Thamugadi is Colonia Marciana Ulpia Traiana Thamugadi. I

had such a great time learning all about the town, and now I am eager to explore all the places

that I learned about today

Day 3

Trajan’s Arch of the Gods was my big visit today and can I just say I was astounded by its

immenseness. The arch was absolutely incredible and great skill and planning went into the

architectural plans of this arch. It was originally created when Thamugadi was growing as a town

and the borders needed to be extended. I pretty much spent my whole day exploring the

immensity of the arch and the architectural structures surrounding it. It is what welcomed every

visitor to walk in the town and proves that the town is a formidable force to be reckoned with.
Day 4

It was a busy day for me in terms of what I had planned. I wanted to get to explore two major

landmarks in the town, the first one being the Temple to the Genius of the Colony and the second

one being Sertius’ Market. The Temple to the Genius of the Colony was donated by Flamen

Augusti and was meant to honor the guardian angel of Thamugadi. Sertius’ Market was an

extravagant display, it could be described as eight large rectangular prisms with designs on them

all. In the center of the prisms was a fountain, and in this area were seven storefront shops where

vendors could set up to sell their goods. It was a unique place to visit and I have never seen

anything quite like it.

Day 5

Today I experienced the Capitolium also referred to and known as the Temple of Jupiter. It was a

marvelous sight with a staircase leading up to them temple and eight stone pillars supporting it.

The large structure I would say is comparable to that of the Parthenon in Athens. Everything on

the inside matched the extravagant size and style of the outside too. It was just an incredible sight

and I cannot wait to see more, though I am sad I am approaching the last day of my trip.

Day 6

This is my last day and I did not plan much simply so I can rest up before my harsh journey

home. It is the month of January and although I will be taking one of the quickest routes, the

weather conditions will still be absurd. Today I visited the Great Southern Bath, and since baths

and bathing are such an important part of every single day, this large bath establishment was

very impressive. In all their totaled fourteen baths, and I took a nice and long customary bath

before I went back to where I was staying to rest up for the journey beck to Roma.
Day 7

I am excited to begin my journey home, I know it may be a harsh journey full of unfavorable

weather conditions, but it is one of the shortest route options I have. I am nervous about the

weather events since I could possibly get stuck in and the freezing temperatures, but I will keep

up hope as I begin the long journey. My journey is expected to take 10.8 days and I chose the

fastest possible route because of the bad conditions. For the first seven days I will be traveling by

land via Rapid Military March and for the last 3.8 days I will be traveling on the water via

military on the rivers and fast through the seas. It is a long and tough journey by I have faith that

I am strong enough and have calculated the fastest possible route for a smooth journey home.
