CIRRUS AIRPLANE MAINTENANCE MANUAL MODELS SR22 AND SR22T

POWER PLANT
1. GENERAL
This chapter describes maintenance practices for the airplane systems which provide the means to induce
and convert fuel-air mixture into power such as the engine, baffling, cowling, mount, attach fittings, electri-
cal harnesses, air intake, and engine drains.
2. DESCRIPTION
A. Engine
Serials 22-0002 & subs: The SR22 is powered by a Teledyne Continental IO-550-N, six-cylinder, nor-
mally aspirated, fuel-injected engine rated to 310 hp at 2700 RPM. Dual, conventional magnetos pro-
vide ignition. (See Figure 71-001) (See Figure 71-002) (See Figure 71-003)
Serials 22T-0001 & subs: The SR22 is powered by a Teledyne Continental TSIO-550-K, six-cylinder,
turbocharged, fuel injected engine rated to 315 hp at 2500 RPM climb and cruise. Dual, conventional
magnetos provide ignition. (See Figure 71-004)
B. Baffling
Sheet metal baffles are installed on the engine to direct the air flow around the cylinders and other
engine compartment components. To help direct and contain air flow in the engine compartment, the
baffles utilize fiber reinforced silicon seals in contact with the cowling around the circumference of the
engine.

B. Engine Baffling (See Figure 71-002)

CAUTION: Proper baffling installation and care is critical to engine cooling. If baffles or seals are
broken or misshaped, the amount of air flowing past a particular cylinder or component
will increase. The increased airflow in one area causes a reduction of airflow past other
components and leads to higher temperatures in some parts of the engine. Ensure baf-
fles are installed correctly and seals fit and direct airflow in the proper direction.

Various lines, hoses, wires, and controls are routed through some baffles. Ensure that
these components are reinstalled correctly after baffle installation.
(1) Removal - Engine Baffling
(a) Remove engine cowling. (Refer to 71-10)
(b) Disconnect any lines, hoses, wires, and controls routed through baffling.
(c) Remove tension springs.
(d) Serials 22T-0001 & subs: Remove intercoolers and forward induction tubes from engine
baffling.
(e) Remove bolts, screws, washers, and nuts securing baffling to engine.
(f) Remove baffling from airplane.
(2) Installation - Engine Baffling
(a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.

Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose
