Australia Fires

In Australia, there are more than 3
million animals that were killed or had been
placed in a different area. There were more
than 15,000 fires that spreaded across
Australia. This was the worst fire on the
record. By March 4, all the fires were
extinguished completely. The last fire of the
month/season appeared to be in Lake
Clifton, Australia. The fires started because
of the heat, strong winds, and horrible
weather. 3,000 kolas died because of the
fires. Fires were burning so close to houses
to where people could step outside and see
the fires from the house. Some firefighters
lost their lives trying to help with the fire.
Many trees, grass, plants, and grown
food all ruined by the fire. In one specific
fire, known as the Bushfire season 34,
people lost their lives directly and 417
indirect. Many people have donated with the
incident. One of the fire service fundraisers
raised more than $20 million dollars to help
Australia. Some people donated blood to
help/save peoples lives. In the fires people
have lost their restaurants and other things
they have built and had for years.

Toilet Display Mocking Mail-In Voting
A man in Mason, MI thought it
would be a comical joke to place a toilet and
sign in his front yard with the sign stating
mail in ballots here. The police in Mason,
MI believe the man did this not only to draw
attention to himself but also to make a point
that he obviously didn’t like the situation
with mailing in your votes. The democratic
clerk of Ingham County had plenty to say
about this situation.
She filed a complaint due to the
man's display. She said, “This can mislead
people who are voting through the mail for
the first time.” Barb Byrum, the demecratic
clerk, made a claim on Friday stating that “It
is a felony to take illegal possession of an
absentee ballot.” She believes that the
elections of this country are to be taken
seriously.
In addition to the sign and toilet, the
resident had a sign in the lawn that said
“Recall Whitmer Now.com.” Byrum didn’t
identify the resident who had pulled this
stunt. The Lansing State Journal knocked on
the door Friday Night but no one answered
the door. This left Byrum very angry since
she was unable to speak with the person who
started this.

 Healthy Screen Time is a Struggle with
Online Schooling

Due to Covid-19 many schools have
switched to online which means there is an
increase in screen time. The recommended
amount of screen time for the ages of eight
to eighteen is 2 hours. This year's screen
time increased 45% compared to last year's
screen time. Screen time guidelines exist for
a good reason. Research has shown that kids
who spend a lot of time on screens are more
likely to have eye problems, weight
problems and trouble with reading and
language. They also are more likely to show
a wide range of other physical and mental
health issues. “The biggest problem with
screens is that people usually sit still while
they watch or interact with them. "If
(students) are spending all day sitting on
screens, when are they moving?" asks
Guerrero. Because of the Pandemic,
physical activity rates have gone down.
Everyday you should get at least 60 minutes
of physical activity, but with online learning
many kids are not reaching that goal.
Another big problem is many kids do
not have a device to get there work or even
no internet. “It's one thing to worry about
screen time when you have your own
computer or phone. But for many students,
the real worry is how they are going to
participate in virtual classes. Almost 1 in
every 5 U.S. students doesn't have reliable
access to a computer at home, the Pew
Research Center finds.” The main problem
with online schooling is kids are having way
too much screen time and could hurt them in
the future.

Found: Life on Venus?

It sounds crazy, right? Life on a
planet that reaches over 464 degrees celsius?
Well, what seemed impossible only
yesterday could be true. On September
14th, 2020 a group of astronomers
discovered phosphine on Venus. Phosphine
is a toxic gas that can be made in many
ways. Most commonly, by human creation
using phosphorus acid and tremendous
pressure that is unnatural and can only be
made in a lab or by the decomposition of
organic matter that contains phosphorus.
While phosphine can be made in other
natural ways like lightning, volcanic activity
or meteor impacts, the amount of phosphine
they found on Venus is approximately 3
tablespoons to an Olympic-sized swimming
pool. This is too high for any of those to
create. This research has been the most
logical explanation that life is on the planet.
Even though there is convincing
evidence it is unconfirmed. What was
discovered could have some other weird
explanation that we do not understand yet.
NASA and other scientists are planning trips
to Venus to figure out this strange mystery.
Who knows, one day people might have
vacation homes on Venus.

Beautiful Legos

Sean Kennedy used to always play
with legos whenever he had free time as a
kid. As he got older he turned his favorite
way to spend time into a career. Sean creates
animals, insects, skyscrapers- just about
anything out of the plastic bricks. One day,
a botanical garden in Iowa asked him if he
would be willing to build plants out of legos
for them. After that, he began touring and
making the environment his subject. His
masterpieces are on tour and he is visiting a
number of zoos around the world. He has
been enjoying this career since 2012. He
visits zoos, museums, and gardens across the
United States, featuring the San Antonio
Zoo, Flamingo gardens in Florida, the
Denver zoo, and the North Carolina
Arboretum. Kennedy does this because he
enjoys it so much. Can you imagine having
a job where you could play with legos and
get paid money just to do it?

Benefits of Eating Breakfast for Students

Eating breakfast is the most
important way to start off your morning,
especially as a student. Eating a healthy
breakfast before starting off your day is
linked to improved concentration, better test
scores, increased energy, a higher intake of
vitamins and minerals, and even a healthier
body weight. Breakfast is especially
important for young students whose brains
use up about half of the body’s energy.
Students who eat a healthy breakfast
tend to have better concentration which will
lead to better test scores. When students start
their day off with breakfast, they can focus
on the task at hand better and become less
distracted by outside influences and other
students. They’re also able to understand
what’s being taught more easily and retain
that information better than students who are
hungry because they skipped breakfast.
According to a study published in 2018 by
the Journal of Economics, students in
schools that offered free breakfasts before
class scored about 25% higher on math,
reading, and science tests. Researchers
believe that this is because the breakfast
provides the energy necessary to increase
cognitive, or thinking, speed and
problem-solving skills.
Eating a healthy breakfast gives you
increased energy that can help you get your
day going. When you sleep, you are fasting,
since you’re going without food. This causes
your blood sugar to drop overnight. When
you wake up and eat breakfast, it provides
the glucose your body needs for energy to
get through the day. When students wake up
after an overnight fast and go to school
without eating breakfast, they start the day
with low blood sugar that just keeps getting
lower. This can leave them feeling slow and
sluggish and make it more difficult to get
through the day, or at least their morning
classes. Eating a healthy breakfast before
school raises blood sugar to a healthy level
and provides the necessary energy that
students need to perform well in class until
lunchtime. Eating a healthy breakfast can
help get your day started with the energy
you need.

 Trick-or-Treating Listed as a High Risk for
COVID-19

Despite all that is going on right
now, hope is not lost for children and even
adults to celebrate Halloween. Activities are
being changed to make sure everyone stays
safe and the chance of spreading germs is
limited. The CDC, Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, posted guidance on
how to celebrate the holiday safley, given
the ongoing pandemic. The CDC writes,
“Many traditional Halloween activities can
be high-risk for spreading viruses. There are
several safer, alternative ways to participate
in Halloween. If you may have COVID-19
or you may have been exposed to someone
with COVID-19, you should not participate
in in-person Halloween festivities and
should not give out candy to
trick-or-treaters.” The CDC separated all
activities by risk category.
The higher risk activities that help
spread the virus include participating in
traditional trick-or-treating where treats are
handed to children who go door to door.
Having trunk-or-treat where treats are
handed out from the trunks of cars lined up
closely in parking lots. Attending crowded
costume parties held indoors. Going to an
indoor haunted house where people may be
crowded together and screaming. Going on
hayrides or tractor rides with people who do
not live in your household. Traveling to a
rural fall festival that is not in your
community.
Some of the moderate risk activities
include participating in one-way
trick-or-treating where individually wrapped
goodie bags are lined up for families to grab
and go while continuing to social distance.
Having a small outdoor costume parade
where people are socially distanced.
Attending a costume party held outdoors
where protective masks are used and people
can remain 6 feet apart. Going to an
open-air, one-way, walk through haunted
forest. Visiting pumpkin patches or orchards
where people use hand sanitizer before
touching pumpkins or picking apples.
The lower risk activities that are safe
alternatives include carving or decorating
pumpkins with members of your household
and displaying them. Carving or decorating
pumpkins outside, at a safe distance, with
neighbors or friends. Decorating your house
with Halloween decorations. Doing a
Halloween scavenger hunt outside. Having a
virtual Halloween costume contest. Having a
Halloween movie night with people you live
with.

overwhelming. It will take some time. It
usually takes up to six weeks to train a dog.
First, start with the basic commands like sit,
down, stay​. If you don’t know what you
want, it’s going to be really hard for your

you’re going to teach your dog, you need to
frame it a certain way — don’t think about

Hello Kitty Cafe Truck

The Hello Kitty cafe truck is not
only a food truck but a cafe. But there's
something special about this truck, the Hello
Kitty cafe truck is on an east coast tour and
is making a stop in metro Detroit September
26th.
The fictional character ‘Hello Kitty’ has
been around since 1974 and was created
with several other characters. It was then
created as a game in 2010 after the creator
brought the character to the United States of
America. In the fictional world of ‘Hello
Kitty’, there happens to be a small cafe run
by her friends. The company Sanrio, now
has two trucks going around the U.S under
the name ‘Hello Kitty Cafe’. The truck is
designed just as it is in the game and serves
the same items as well, with the addition of
merchandise.
The truck will be at Twelve Oaks
Mall in Metro Detroit on the 26th of
september, a Saturday. They are currently on
an East Coast tour which leads them to the
stop in Detroit.
In addition to the cafe there will also
be a Barbie pop-up truck at the mall as well,
they will be selling 90’s apparel and
accessories.

California’s Wildfires

In California there are almost 28
different wildfires spreading across the state.
The fires have burned a record 2 million
acres of California in only a couple months.
One of the many fires was caused by a
gender reveal party in San Bernardino
County, California. A party popper landed
on some dry grass and the fire just spread
from there. Wildfires can start so easily
during the fall in California because of how
dry and windy it is there. Global warming
also plays a big role in wildfires starting,
because of global warming the state can
have serious droughts. This can be a big
problem because with the winds and how
dry it gets a small flame can be turned into a
huge wildfire really quickly. 97 percent of
wildfires are started by humans according to
a study by balch, but other wildfires can be
started naturally by things like lightning.

 How are the California Fires Affecting
People?

In California on September 6, 2020
Los Angeles got a taste of what was
happening all over California. ​These fires
started by very rare hot weather and
lightning storms.​ On September 11
firefighters responded to 7,422 fires alone
(that’s a lot!). While in 2019 there were
5,223 fires. That’s a 42% increase! As of
September 24, 2020 there are approximately
113,986 acres of fire as of 8:00am in Los
Angeles. 1,000s of families evacuating their
homes where they can see puffs of smoke
out their kitchen window. These fires are
going north and affecting Oregon and
Washington too. Jackson Ryan and Eric
Meck from cnet.com say, “​A devastating
fire season is continuing to blaze a
destructive path across the Western US.
Infernos in California, Oregon and
Washington state have ​caused at least 36
deaths​, with dozens missing and thousands
of homes destroyed or evacuated since the
season began.”.
Many people on the front lines have
risked their lives to keep us safe. ​The people
who have helped deserve a lot. For example,
they put their lives on the line everyday for
complete strangers. As the days go on the
people in California can only hope that it
gets better. As the fires grow so do
everyone's hoping it is closer to the end.

Single Dose Covid-19 Vaccine Soon to be
Tested

A huge world-wide search for a
Covid-19 vaccine that would work in one
dose getting underway while the top U.S.
health officials plan on assuring a Congress
and society that don’t necessarily trust the
government can trust anything the
government approves. According to U.S.
health officials, the vaccine won’t be cutting
any corners.
“We want to do everything we can
without sacrificing safety or efficacy, we’re
not going to do that, to make sure that we
end up with vaccines that are going to save
lives,” says Dr. Francis Collins, director of
the National Institutes of Health. The
vaccine is expected to be distributed
sometime this year or early 2021.
But there is also a treatment option
for Covid-19, ICAM. It is a drug therapy
that has a near perfect Covid-19 survival
rate of 96.4%.
“We had no need for mechanical
ventilation and the patients all survived the
discharge regardless of age and regardless of
past medical history,” Norwood Williams
said. ICAM is an acronym for the types of
medications used; Immunosupport such as
Vitamin C and Zinc, Corticosteroids to
control inflammation, Anticoagulants to
prevent blood clots, and Macrolides to help

Why Is Using Your Phone Bad For You?

Most people don't ever think about
what their phone could be doing to their
body and their health. There are many
different ways your phone can be controlling
you and your mental health. People that
work for Apple, Twitter, Google, Snapchat,
Instagram, and Tiktok say that they noticed
their phones were making them more
depressed or sad. Studies show that teen
suicied went higher than usual due to their
phones and cyberbullying. When these apps
were first made the working didnt want it to
harm young teens or cause deaths so they
made a plan to help with getting rid of the
apps. A man from one of the apps decided to
make a video about their mental health, he
was so nervous to post it thinking about
what his boss might say. The next day tons
of people started agreeing with him.
Eventually the video got out to everyone,
people were talking about it to everyone.
When the company saw it they were very
impressed, this was starting to get very
important. Then suddenly nothing, no more
talking about it, no more videos being
shared, nothing. The companies liked all the
money, they didn't care about the health, all
they wanted was the money.
Behind the screen you hold when
you wake up and before you go to bed is an
issue. When you get a notification your
brain makes it so you want to know what it
was. Wouldn't it be easier to see the picture
when you get the notification. They don't do
that because they want you to be drawn to
your phone, they want that money. Behind
your screen are people tracking everything,
such as: they track what videos you look at
they track what photos you look at, they
look at what time you looked at that photo,
how long you looked at it for,What they do
with that information is they give you
something to look at that will get your
attention. If you have TikTok you know that
there is a FYP (for you page) and most of
the time they give you videos you want to
see, like a cat video or try not to laugh. They
show you something you want to see
because they have your information, and
they do that for the money. The health of
teenagers, kids, and adults started going
downhill very fast and very bad because of
their phones. If you want your health to be
super good then I recommend not using your
phone so much.

On Sunday September 20th, millions
of phones across the U.S got a notification
saying “TikTok is here to stay!”.​ Tik Tok is
a social network for sharing user generated
videos. It was originally called musical.ly.
Users can create and upload their own
videos where they lip synch, sing, dance, or
just talk.
That's what Tik Tok is now. Most
people like Tik Tok because you can go
viral even if you have 80 followers. You
could become an online celebrity at 9. For
instance my little sister Maddie Rank, she
has 200+ followers on Tik Tok and she's had
it for 4 months. Tik Tok is owned by a
Chinese internet company, ​ByteDance.Byte
Dance is the owner of Tik Tok.Trump
doesn't like that.

How To Do Halloween Properly In 2020

This year Halloween is going to be a
work out. This year DIY recipes are going to
be your best friend from jack o'lanterns to a
custom cardboard ghost train in your very
own hall, along with many more. But no
doubt Halloween will undoubtedly be
different this year before we get into the
DIY category. Make sure to stay safe and
socially distance on the sidewalks and
remember to always wear your mask!
Now we're on to the recipes why don't you
decorate your house to the max. Decorate
christmas style go with a new candle design
or even customize the back of your car trunk
to look spooky for your friends and family.
Another idea is to customize some punkins
with sharpie or spray paint markers and ect.
Another thing you could do is hop on a
zoom call with your closest friends and
show off your halloween costumes on
camera or even a zoom costume party!
Another thing to do is attend a trunk or treat
and get some side candy. You could go to a
drive thru haunted house. I prevent walking
and even more exposure to covid 19.
This year there's a new monster in town
(coronavirus).
To stay safe this year you could put down
some tape on the sidewalk to make sure too
social distance. This year also a blue moon
will appear on october 31,just what we need
to spice things up this halloween. Also one
the first of October there will be a
strawberry moon.
Another thing for the kids this year is that
you could plan a halloween scavenger hunt,
for the kids of course. And to add to the list
you could always have your kids have fun
with custom masks. Carving pumpkins and
making halloween cookies this year are on
the table for celebrating halloween.
And that's all there is to this halloween in
2020 makes sure to wear your best masks
and social distance.

How Covid-19 is Affecting Schools

Covid -19 all over the world and if you don't
know what it is it's a virus that came from
China that is spreading world wide but I was
wondering how it is affecting schools. How
is it affecting teachers from teaching their

So if you are not at school you're

we have to wear face masks whenever we're

get attached. They are fun to play with and

It’s back to school and parents are
distressed on whether it’s safe to send kids
back to school. Some people in Port Huron
are protesting to shut down their schools,
others are sending their kids back.
Teachers and concerned parents in Port
Huron, marching down in red shirts, and
signs, protesting for their kids safety, signs
reading, “kids first” or “safety first”. Parents
are very ​ a​ pprehensive, others​, not caring.
Children who attend regular school get the
social interaction they need, and they get
disciplined better, they can also improve
their physical and fitness skills. But on the
other hand, online school helps with anxiety
and the students can go at their own pace,
they can also learn skills, but
not as much as regular school. Also, they
have to wear masks which may be hard at
times to breath and may trigger asthma.
What I learned from reading many articles
like an article from ​Barrington, Kate. 2020,

be a little challenging to do online school for
parents who work all the time or are busy,
plus some parents (80%) want the full
education for their kids, Other parents,
(20%) say homeschooling made kids
happier and less stressed, an experiment was
conducted as it was about 5,000 out of 7,300
adults were homeschooled for more than 7
years and say its way more active and better
than regular school.

Fall

Fall is when the warmer days start to
get colder, and the leafs on trees change
color and fall to the ground,the plants no
longer are able to make food for
themselves,animals prepare for hibernation,
and the days grow shorter.You can probably
tell when fall is here because of the crisp air,
and sometimes the faint smell of pumpkin
spice, apple cider or even cinnamon
doughnuts.The exact signs of fall are when it
starts to get colder outside, especially in the
mornings. Also the leaves will start to
change colors and fall to the ground.
Autumn 2020 in the Northern Hemisphere
has begun on Tuesday, September 22, and
will end on Monday, December 21.
Most kids get excited about fall
because Halloween is right around the
corner, and that means, you guessed it,
candy. Other people are probably happy
about putting up decorations for fall,going
shopping for fall decorations, or like any
other sent crazy adult, candle shopping.
Putting up decorations for fall is pretty nice,
well if it's peaceful.
The concept of autumn, or fall, in
European languages is sometimes connected
with the harvesting of crops, which in many
cultures autumn or fall, like the other
seasons , has been marked by rites and
festivals revolving around the season’s
importance in food production.
Animals gather food for autumn in
preparation for the coming winter, and those
with fur often grow thicker coats. Many
birds migrate toward the Equator to get
away from the cold temperatures. This is
probably all to know about Fall!
